Analytical Paper 2

Success in life is determined by oneself! I believe that education is the key component to being successful. It equips people with the necessary tools to be an important part of society. The purpose of this paper is to explain my personal and educational background, learning as an adult student and the techniques I need on being a successful writer. I was born in Newport News, Virginia on April 29, 1980. I grew up in the wonderful city of Hampton, Virginia with my parents and siblings. In my life I have always looked up to my parents. They provided me with a magnificent upbringing. I credit them for how much I have achieved in life. They have always inspired me to reach for the stars and that with God anything is possible. I attended Bethel High School in Hampton, VA, and graduated in 1998. I decided to pursue my Business Education degree at Virginia Union University (VUU) in Richmond, VA. VUU provided me with the necessary skills to fulfill my dream of being a teacher. After graduation in 2005, I started substitute teaching with hopes of securing a position as a full-time teacher. In this process I decided I wanted to further my knowledge in the business world, so I obtained my Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in management. This degree allowed me to see the organizational structure of a company, how the stock market operates, accounting procedures, and financial information on a higher level. Learning is an ever-growing process and in order to stay competent one must progress further. I decided to further my education again by obtaining my masters of education degree. Education has always been a passion of mine since my childhood days. After seeking and researching schools, I decided on Averett University because of the flexible schedule and the cost and time it will take me to finish the program. My main career goal is to secure an

instructional position in the area of Career and Technical Education in a secondary school setting. After I obtain my position, I plan to take educational leadership courses to be a principal and to also teach on the college/university level. My mission as a teacher is to provide opportunities for all students to grow academically, emotionally, and physically through knowledge, attitudes, skills, and values in an environment that supports a diverse cultural society. Obtaining these positions will allow me to utilize my knowledge gained in college, while also giving me the opportunity to fulfill my lifelong passion of teaching and empowering young minds. I believe the mind is the key in teaching young people. What students think, they become. I have the notion that I can help alter a students life simply by altering students attitude of mind about school and education by offering teaching that is interactive, innovative and mentally stimulating. Now that I have chosen to return to school once again, I have to deal with the issues of managing my time, workload and stress. I have always felt I was a great organizer, but with the classes being shorter I feel more pressure. I plan to be realistic, make a checklist and have a study buddy (Simon, 2010). Writing is an essential key in any career or field that one may choose. In order to become an effective writer, a person has to write more, get feedback and take classes to get better. Many struggle with the idea of criticism about their writing but it is all a part of improving. Writing has definitely been a learning experience for me. In my previous classes while obtaining my Masters of Business Administration degree I had to learn how to write on a graduate level. Initially, my writing was not there, but I worked hard and went to writing workshops to improve. As of now, some issues that I have with my writing are sentence and paragraph structure, correct subject/verb usage and a well-developed composition. I also want to improve my vocabulary in

my writing so that I can expand more on my ideas. After a self-assessment I learned that my central learning style is visual (Simon, 2010). Learning this information has helped me gain insight on how to prepare myself before, during and after classes. I am very grateful to have this opportunity to further my education at Averett University. Education provides a person with the essential skills to move forward in life and operate in this ever-changing world. I know that there will be challenges along the way but I know that with God and my family support, I will overcome and be a graduate of Averett University in 2013.
