TAG Teacher Observation, 6th Grade Earth Science Notes 3/14/13 21 students made up of Caucasian males and females

females with only a few African American and Asian students Students sat at tables made up of 3-4 students Daily agenda was projected using an overhead, teacher went over it once class started Teacher reviewed what students had previously learned since he had been out of school for the past few days Teacher passionately discusses the field trips that have been occurring on the weekends and school days over the past few weeks, as well as the upcoming field trips Field trips have been hikes and water testing, which tie into the earth science standards 2 students had to present their science current events o Students have assigned dates based on the alphabet o Students stood up to talk about what the article was about and his/her opinion and thoughts on the topic o Students were given the opportunity to question the presenter by raising their hands and waiting to be called on Teacher gave brief presentation on how to use a Hertzsprung-Russell Diagram After the presentation, students were told to work with their table to identify the elements of unknown stars by using a Hertzsprung-Russell Diagram and complete the corresponding worksheet o Once the groups completed the investigation and worksheet, they were to find another group to compare answers with o The worksheet was very open ended, which created good content conversations among the students
