Big Ideas: How had the war effected different people at home and abroad? What contributions did the average person make to the war effort? How did the unfolding of events of WW2 act as a catalyst for civil rights? Unit Goals and Objectives: 1. Students will examine vocabulary of ww2 and have a grasp of the terminology of events and people who played a major role in the Pacific War. 2. Students will be able to map out the path of the American advance into the pacific over the course of the war. 3. Students will understand sacrifice of the soldier and the home-front worker for the sake of victory. 4. Students will be able to identify Propaganda used in the war. Unit Summary: WWII was the largest conflict that the world has ever seen. there were so many people effected by the conflict in some way that it is accurate to say that more people experienced the conflict in some way than people who didn't. This unit will give the students the tools and the mindset to get a more personal experience of the events that unfolded in the pacific theater and on the home front. The students will be required to learn about the events that took place on the ocean and the events that took place back on American soil. The final goal of this unit is to create a person's story and outline a day in the life of this person through a journal entry in which students are required to relate to some event either at home or abroad and imagine and describe what that person was going through on that day. What is that person's conflict, inner struggle, what do they desire, what do they fear. The students will answer these questions while putting in the context of their character in an attempt to conceptualize the many events that were going on at the time and what conflict each person experienced. Assessment Plan:

Explain U.S. and Allied wartime strategy, including the major battles of Midway, Normandy, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and the Battle of the Bulge.

Entry-Level: Students are exposed to the key terms that they should be looking for throughout the lesson. These Key terms will come up several times in the lesson reinforcing their knowledge.

Formative: Guided Notes Reflect to modern day problems and to the Prezi notes. These notes will be submitted after the conclusion of the lecture. Timeline Graphic Organizer This will show that the students are knowledgeable about the different events that occurred across the pacific. Final Project Proposal This will give me an idea of what the students have learned and gained from the lessons throughout the unit and whether or not they are grasping the knowledge required for the completion of the final project.
