Number problems
1.) If the average of 6 numbers is 21 , what is the average of the first 5 numbers?

2.) The sum of 3 consecutive integers is 549. What is the middle number?

3) When a number is added to 4 times itself the result is 16 more than the number?

4.) Paul has half as many pieces of candy as Jennifer. Jennifer has half as many as Charles. Charles has 12 times as many as Susan. Susan has 4 pieces. How many pieces do they all have together?

Digit problems
1.) The ones digit of a number is 3 less than its hundred digit and the tens digit is 1 more than the ones digit. If you reverse the number, it will be a two digit number, and then subtract it from the original number, the difference will be 297. What is the number?

2.) The tens digit of a certain number is twice its hundred digit. The ones digit is the same as the hundred digit. The sum of the digits is 16. Find the number.

3.) The sum of the digits of a certain 2-digit number is 13. When you reverse the number, the new number is 9 less than the original number. The difference between the 2 digits is 1. Find the original number.

4.) The tens digit of a number is three times the ones digit. The sum of the digits in the number is 8. What is the number?

1.) Mr. Tan has two daughters. If their total age is 95, and his elder daughter is 1/3 of his age while his younger daughter is of his age, how old is Mr. Tan?

2.) In 2000, my husband John was eleven times as old as my son William. In 2012, he will be three times as old as my son. How old was my son of 2000?

3.) In three more years, Miguel's grandfather will be six times as old as Miguel was last year. When Miguel's present age is added to his grandfather's present age, the total is 68. How old is each one now?

Coin problems

1.) A collection of 35 coins, consisting of dimes and quarters, has a total value of $6.35. How many of each type of coins are in this collection?

2.) Maria has $1-coins and 50-centavos coins. If she has 3,600 coins in all, and amounting to $2250, how many coins of each kind does she have?

3.) There are twenty-six coins in his pocket. They are dollars and quarters, and they add up to seventeen dollars. How many of each coin does he have?

4.) A collection of 33 coins, consisting of nickels, dimes, and quarters, has a value of $3.30. If there are three times as many nickels as quarters, and one-half as many dimes as nickels, how many coins of each kind are there?

2.) Ms. dela Paz borrowed $4,500 for 6 months with a yearly interest of 8%. How much money did Ms. dela Paz pay back in all?

3.) Mr. Manalo paid a total of $1,260 interest on $6,000 that he borrowed for a period of 3 years. What was the monthly rate of interest?

4.) Mr. Tan has $4,500 invested in a cooperative that pays a 5% yearly interest. In how many years will his investment earn $900?

Motion problems
1.) A man can cover a certain distance in 2 hours 45 minutes if he walks at a rate of 4 km/h. if he covers the same distance on cycle at a rate of 16.5 km/h, find the time taken by him.

2.) A train traveled the first 1/6 of the distance from station A to station B at an average speed of 90 km/h, 2/3 of the distance at an average speed of 120 km/h, and the remaining 9 km at an average speed of 90 km/h. Find the average speed at which the train was traveling from station A to station B.

3.) Cyclist A started his journey on cycle at 7:30 a.m. at a speed of 8 km/h. After 30 minutes, cyclist B started from the same place but with a speed of 10 km/h. At what time did B overtake A?

4.) A train leaves City L at 4:30 p.m. on Friday and reaches City G at 6:30 p.m. the next day. If the distance between Cities L and G is 1430 km, find the average speed of the train.

5.) A shuttle bus leaves Province A at 7:30 p.m. and reaches City L at 9:45 a.m. What is the distance between Province A and City L, if the average speed of the bus is 32 km/h.

6.) Brenda and Angela took part in a cycling race. Brenda cycled at an average speed of 30 km/h the first of the distance. She cycled the remaining distance at 25 km/h. Angela cycled at an average speed of 25 km/h in the first 2/3 of the distance, and she cycled the remaining 10 km at a speed of 40 km/h. Who came first in the race?

7.) Driving at an average speed of 66 km/h, a motorist covers a certain distance in 28 minutes. Find the distance.

8.) A car is running at 42 km/h. What time will it take to cover a distance of 350 meters?

9.) If a man covers a distance of 10.2 km in 3 hours, find the distance covered by him in 5 hours.

10.) The time taken by a boy to run 10 meters is the same as that taken by a car to cover 25 meters. Find the distance covered by the boy during the time the car covers 1 km.

Work problems
1.) John estimates that he could paint Mrs. Cathys barn in 6 days. Adam, his assistant, calculated that he could do it in 9 days. How long would it take both of them to finish the job if they worked together?

2.) A pipe can fill a tub alone in 12 min. time; another can do it in 15 min, and the drain if opened could do the contrary in 20 minutes. How long would it take the two pipes to fill the tub (completely emptied at the beginning) if at the same time the drain was left opened?

3.) In mowing the backyard lawn, it takes James and Chris, each with his own mower, 3 hours and 20 minutes to do the job. Working alone, Chris would need 5 hours longer than James to finish the job. How long would it take each of them alone to do the job?

4.) Two microprocessors linked to a main computer can process a certain customers financial statements for the fiscal year all in 8 seconds. If it takes one of the microprocessors twice as long as the other to produce the statements, how long would it take each alone to do the job?

5.) A term paper consists of 10,000 words. Martha can type 60 words per minute, while Jess can type 40 words per minute. In how much time can they finish the job if they started together?

6.) Pablo can finish paining a fence in 6 days. His son, Aldrich, can finish painting the same fence in 4 days. If they worked together, how long would it take?
