Course Description: The purpose of studying physics is to understand motion, forces, energy, heat, waves, light, electricity, and magnetism are useful and important to scientists and engineers. Physics focuses on the development of models deeply rooted in scientific inquiry. Discussions and laboratory investigations will form a basis of learning principles, with several opportunities to read, write, listen, and speak about CA standards-based material. During this semester, students will learn about: 1. Motion an d Forces 2. Energy and 3. Heat and Momentum Thermodynmics Grading Policy: A percentage system will be used, based on the following items: Quizzes/Tests: 50% Visual Vocabulary 25% Class work(Exit Tickets): 15% Chapter Outlines Objectives Group Work Labs/Activities Presentations Evaluations Section Review (Homework) 10% LATE WORK(ONE set of Assignments)will only be accepted AFTER a student logs in 10 minutes(penalty)@nutrition. A comprehensive final will be given at the end of the semester. The 5-, 10-, 15-, and 20- week grades will be calculated as follows: (Total points earned / Total points possible) x 100: 0-59%=F, 60-69%=D, 70-79%=C, 80-89%=B, 90-100%=A Required Materials: (1) A Spiral Notebook for this class is REQUIRED, will be used daily, and must be kept current. (2) At least two pens or pencils; stickies, whiteboard marker. (3) Textbook: Holt Chemistry. (4) Folder with two-hole and three-hole punched prongs: holds all checked work (50% of grade) Classroom Rules for All Students: 1. Keep solids/liquids out of your mouth. 2. Keep objects out of the air. 3. Keep electronics off of your skin. 4. Keep extra words out of the air. Consequences for breaking the rules: 1. 5-Minute Penalty Box student must sit alone/at seat quietly; moves upon Mr. Qs approval 2. 10-Minute Detention student must log in 10 minutes in class quietly during break; 3. Grade Freeze --class points go up, however your points will not until 10-Minute Detention is logged in. 4. A call home to your parent is made. Parent may be asked to visit at any time. 5. You are referred to your counselor or dean. 6. Saturday school detention Your Responsibility: You must attend daily! If you are absent, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to get the missed assignments. Follow the class rules and school rules. They exist to help you be successful in class.
