Course Description: The Earth is unique because it is the only known source of life. We will discover the conditions and organisms of our planet and its place in the solar system.

Modules Covered Scientific Method

Contents in Brief
We will learn about how to implement Lab Safety Rules, use and name lab equipment, and understand that science touches our daily lives. We will discover how the Earth interacts with the Solar system. We will study the atmosphere and how is effects the earth and its inhabitants. We will also look at the water cycle. The study of the periodic table, phase changes and the transfer of energy.

The students will be provided a Lab Notebook for each module. The Lab Notebooks will be used daily for warm ups, note taking, lab work, and class work. Lost lab notebooks need to be replaced immediately at the students expense. To replace a Lab notebook contact the school bookkeeper at 485-8306. Module 3 has a website to support the information. The students will be expected to participate in long-term projects throughout the year. There will be three major projects due during the year one corresponding to each of the modules.

Grading Procedures: Grades are figured using points. Most assignments are worth 100 pts each. Student Expectations:

5 Non-negotiable: 1. I will value the educational rights of others by not being disruptive in any class. 2. I will treat others as they wish to be treated. 3. I will be prepared for class with my agenda, ready to record learning targets and daily class agenda items. Students are expected to use their agendas daily to record assignments and assessments. Students are expected to attend class regularly, be on time and be prepared with pencils, pens, notebook, and homework. Homework can be expected on a regular basis and is due the following day in class, unless otherwise noted. Students who do not have their homework assignment for the day, and were in class when it was assigned, will be expected to make it up. It will be counted as late, with the maximum of 80% of the original value. Absent students are responsible for making up all missed class work and homework assignments. District policy will be followed in regards to absences and make up work. Extra help is available and encouraged. I am able to help students outside of class by appointment. Students should be concerned about their progress on a daily basis, not just at the end of the trimester. Updated grades are posted on infinite campus on a weekly basis. Academic Assistance is available. For additional resources, please refer to the Academic Assistance sheet located on the information table in the main lobby. Students may not receive more than 2 Us in one subject area and still pass that subject.
