August 26, 2013 Ways and Means Committee Democrats U.S. House of Representatives 1106 Longworth House Office Building Washington D.C. 20515 Re: National Organization for Marriage Honorable Members: It has come to my attention that the anti-gay group, National Organization for Marriage (NOM), is bombarding Chairman Camp with email from supporters over perceived injuries to them by the Internal Revenue Service. This is not only a false claim but it is a knowingly false claim. According to NOM, an employee of the IRS leaked an unredeacted form 990 (including donors) to the Human Rights Campaign for political purposes. They base their claim on markings on the supposedly leaked return. Aside from the absurdity of this conspiracy theory; 1. Maggie Brown, past Chairman and CEO of National Organization for Marriage has stated that a low-level employee sent to the return to someone claiming to be an employee. Presumably, that individual provided the return to HRC and; 2. The markings on the return do not indicate how the copy originated something that I can easily prove. Can we please put an end to this nonsense? It is a costly waste of time that can (and should) be for more meaningful issues. Sincerely,
