SFP Module Insertion Rule


The GE SFP provided with the DSLAM has to be inserted into the ICM cards as below.

960 Port DSLAM

960 port DSLAM is 2*480 port DSLAM installed in the same rack. Wherever feasible
(locations where Tier-2 is collocated with DSLAM or where at least 2 Fiber Links are
available), configure the DSLAMs as 2*480 port only. Only in places where it is not
possible to configure as 2 * 480 port, we need to do cascading of the DSLAMs so that all
960 ports work on only 1 uplink without redundancy. In such cases, insert the SFP
Transceivers as given below:

Connecting to DSLAM
Connect a serial cable (Debug Cable) between the DSLAM’s Active ICM3Gc
Debug port and COM port of PC.
Run HyperTerminal on the PC.
Give a name for the connection and configure the COM port parameters as
9600, N, 8, 1. ( Click Restore Default)

Login to the DSLAM using the login name: admin


Since the login name admin does not have any password by default, hit
ENTER key when it asks for password.

After the successful login the DSLAM will give a message -“You are now in
the privileged mode”. For this level, CLI prompt shows the system name
followed by “#”.

Configuration for System Management

Configuring System Name

The DSLAM’s name can be configured by using the command in Global


Configuration Mode:
AN2000_IB#system name <system-name>
The newly configured system name can be verified using the command:
AN2000_IB#show system
The system name must be of lower case letter and in the following format

For DSLAMs connected to Project 2.2 Network


<City code>-<Equipment code>-<Exchange code>-<Equipment ID>
City Code must be 3 characters as per NIB naming convention.
Equipment name must be DLM for DSLAMs.
Exchange Code can be an acronym of 3 to 5 characters.
Equipment ID must be 2 characters denoting the DSLAM No. in the Exchange.

Eg:- bgl-dlm-jnr-03 (For 3rd DSLAM in Bangalore Jayanagar Exchange)

For DSLAMs connected to Multiplay Network

<City code>-<Equipment code>-<Exchange code>-<Equipment ID>


City Code must be 3 characters as per NIB naming convention.
Equipment name must be dlm for DSLAMs.
Exchange Code is 5 characters where
1 to 3 characters is acronym for the exchange,
4th character denotes the DSLAM port density (9 for 960, 4 for 480, 2
for 240, 1 for 120 and 6 for 64)

5th character denotes vendor code (U for UTStar DSLAMs).

Equipment ID must be 2 characters denoting the DSLAM No. in the Exchange.


Eg:- bgl-dlm-jnr9u-06 (For 6th DSLAM in Bangalore Jayanagar Exchange, which is
of Type 960 and make UTSTAR)

Configuring System Time


The DSLAM’s name can be configured by using the command in Global
Configuration Mode:
AN2000_IB#time <yyyy/mm/dd/hh/mm/ss>
E.g. AN2000_IB#time 2007/06/01/10/45/10
The newly configured system time can be verified using the command:
AN2000_IB#show time

Configuring User Account:


Multiple users can be created in DSLAM by using the command in Access Configuration
Mode using the following steps
1. Enter access configuration mode by typing access from the global configuration mode
AN2000_IB#access
2. Creating a customer with username bbmp password bbmp123
AN2000_IB(access)#user-account <user-name> password <password>
Eg: AN2000_IB(access)#user-account bbmp password bbmp123

3. Return to global configuration mode using command exit


AN2000_IB(access)#exit

Change Admin Password.


Username admin has privileged access to the DSLAM by default. So it has to be protected
with a secret password (BbMp@dMiN). we can change the admin password using the
following steps.
1. Login to the DSLAM using the username “admin”
2. Enter to the Access configuration mode.
3. Change the password using the following command
AN2000_IB(access)#password
AN2000_IB (access)#password
Changing password for admin
Old password: <Type the old password here>
Enter the new password (minimum of 5, maximum of 8 characters)
Please use a combination of upper and lower case letters and numbers.

Configuring the Uplink Connectivity to TIER-2 / BNG

DSLAM and TIER 2 Connectivity

As per the design GE 1 port of active ICM card (ICM A) will be connected to TIER 2
switch and GE 1 port of ICM B will be the standby connectivity.

In case of Project 2.2 connectivity, the management VLAN is 127.


The management VLAN for the DSLAM connected to RPR switch is 124.
The management VLAN for the DSLAM connected to OCLAN switch is 116.

Management VLAN creation for Project 2.2 Connectivity


Create VLAN 127 using the steps given below
AN2000_IB#slot icm

Check the In band configuration using the following commands.

Check the connectivity between DSLAM and Tier-2 by pinging to Tier-2 IP address in case
of Project 2.2 Connectivity.

In case of Multiplay Network Connectivity, ping to the Default Gateway IP provided from
Bangalore NOC.

In the above configuration Inband VLAN IP Address will be changing from site to site.

Creating default route in DSLAM


Add a default route in the DSLAM for pinging to other Networks. In case of Project 2.2
Connectivity, the default gateway is the Tier-2 IP Address and in case of Multiplay
Network, it is the first IP in the subnet.
Command: AN2000_IB#ip route 0.0.0.0 netmask 0.0.0.0 gateway <Gateway IP> interface
<vlan-name>

Note: The Vlan name must be the name assigned to the Management VLAN.
Eg: AN2000_IB#ip route 0.0.0.0 netmask 0.0.0.0 gateway 10.240.71.78 interface inband

Enabling ICM Redundancy

Enable the redundancy in Active ICM card using the command given below.

Command: AN2000_IB#redundancy

Saving the Configuration

Save the configuration using command “save config” from the global configuration mode.

Command: AN2000_IB#save config

Configuration of User VLAN’s and ADSL ports.

Configuration steps will be the same for all type of DSLAMs. Only number of user vlans
will change.

Step 1: Create the User Vlans (128-991 for 960 /128-559 for 480/128-343 for 240/128-
235 for 120/128-185 for 64) in ICM card.
Command:

IPASDL8Ac type which gives 24 ADSL ports. So while configuring last ADSL card

Step 3: Map the ICM card vlans to Internal ports in tag mode.

Note: In case of 240/120/64 Port DSLAM, as per the design last ADSL card is of

(IPASDL8Ac),configure upto 24 port only.

Step 5: Mapping the Ports with the Line card Vlans


Command:

Note: In case of 240/120/64 Port DSLAM, as per the design, last ADSL card is of
IPASDL8Ac type which gives 24 ADSL ports. So while configuring last ADSL card
(IPASDL8Ac),configure upto 24 port only.

Step 6:Creating ADSL Profile for Customers.

i) Create a Spectrum profile:


Command:
AN2000_IB#profile sp-adsl <spectrum profile name > ln-std 32
E.g. AN2000_IB#profile sp-adsl spectrum ln-std 32
ii) Create a service Line profile
Command:
AN2000_IB#profile ln-adsl <line profile name> dn0-max-rate 2048
E.g. AN2000_IB#profile ln-adsl line dn0-max-rate 2048
Setting up Upstream & Downstream Delay in the Line Profile
Command:
AN2000_IB#profile ln-adsl <line profile name> up0-delay 1
AN2000_IB#profile ln-adsl <line profile name> dn0-delay 1

iii) Create an ADSL profile by combining spectrum and line profile.

Step 7: Assigning the Adsl profile to Adsl Port.

Step A: Before assigning the adsl profile, the dsl port should be in locked state.
Command:
AN2000_IB(IPADSL8A-1/PORT)#disable dsl 1-48
Eg:AN2000_IB#slot 1
AN2000_IB(IPADSL8A-1)#port

Step -B Assigning the ADSL profile to Port


Command:

Step -C After assigning the adsl profile, enable the dsl port
Command:

Check the status of the dsl ports

It will show all the port status as unlock

Step 8 Adding the Uplink GE port to all ICM Vlans

The GE port connected to the Tier-2 is the Uplink port. Add that port to the all ICM Vlans
in tagged mode.

Command:

Additional configuration steps needed for 960 port DSLAM.


DSLAM connected to Project 2.2 Network
1. For 960 port DSLAM an ip subnet of /29 mask is needed.
2. Configure first 432 ports (Vlan 128 to 559) in chassis 1 (Top) and remaining
432 ports (Vlan 560 to 991) in Chassis 2 (Bottom).
3. Chassis 1 GE 1 port will be connected to TIER 2.
4. GE 2 ports of Chassis 1 and Chassis 2 will be interconnected using a fiber
cable with 5dB attenuator.
5. Commands are same only .The vlan number and interface will change.

Configuration Steps needed in the Chassis 1 (Top Chassis)


1. Configure Chassis 1 like a 480 as described above.
2. After this create vlan 560 to 991 in ICM using the steps described above.
3. In-band management IP of the Chassis 1 will be the 1st IP of the /29 subnet
4. Make GE 1 & GE 2 as a member of vlan 560 to 991 also in tagged mode.
5. Make GE 1 & GE 2 as member of vlan 127 in untagged mode.

Configuration Steps needed in Chassis 2 (Bottom Chassis)


1. Configuration steps are same like a 480 port DSLAM. GE 2 will be the Uplink.
2. Create vlan 127 in ICM and add GE2 port as member of vlan 127 in untagged
mode using the above described steps.
3. Add vlan 127 to in-band management and give 3rd IP of the /29 subnet as in-
band management IP ( 5th IP will be given to TIER 2 Switch).
4. Follow the steps described for creating vlan and ADSL port for 480. The only
difference is vlan number changes from 560 to 991 other than 128 to 559 and GE
2 should be a member of all the vlans in ICM other than GE1 in the case of 480.

DSLAM connected to RPR Switch

1. Configure Chassis 1 like a 480 as described above.
2. After this create vlan 560 to 991 in ICM using the steps described above
3. Make GE 1 & GE 2 as a member of vlan 560 to 991 also in tagged mode.
4. Make GE 1 & GE 2 as member of vlan 124 in tagged mode.

Configuration Steps needed in Chassis 2 (Bottom Chassis)


1. Configuration steps are same like a 480 port DSLAM. GE 2 will be the Uplink.
2. Create vlan 124 in ICM and add GE2 as member of vlan 124 in tagged mode using
the above described steps.
3. Add vlan 124 to in-band management
4. Follow the steps described for creating vlan and ADSL port for 480. The only
difference is vlan number changes from 560 to 991 other than 128 to 559 and GE
2 should be a member of all the vlans in ICM other than GE1 in the case of 480.

1. Configure first 432 ports (Vlan 128 to 559) in chassis 1 (Top) and remaining

3. GE 2 ports of Chassis 1 and Chassis 2 will be interconnected using a fiber
cable with 5dB attenuator.
4. Commands are same only. The vlan number and interfaces will change.

1. Configure Chassis 1 like a 480 as described above.
2. After this create vlan 560 to 991 in ICM using the steps described above
3. Make GE 1 & GE 2 as a member of vlan 560 to 991 also in tagged mode.
4. Make GE 2 as member of vlan 116 in tagged mode.

Configuration Steps needed in Chassis 2 (Bottom Chassis)

1. Configuration steps are same like a 480 port DSLAM. GE 2 will be the Uplink.
2. Create vlan 116 in ICM and add GE2 as member of vlan 116 in tagged mode using
the above described steps.
3. Add vlan 116 to in-band management
4. Follow the steps described for creating vlan and ADSL port for 480. The only
difference is vlan number changes from 560 to 991 other than 128 to 559 and
GE- 2 should be a member of all the vlans in ICM other than GE1 in the case of
480.
