Lesson Plan 16/8/13 Period 3 Topic: Social Influence on Individual Behaviour: Pro-social behaviour Year Level: 11 Learning Outcomes:

Pro and anti-social behaviour of the individual: Characteristics of and factors influencing, pro-social behaviour: situational (bystander intervention and effect), social norms reciprocity principle; social responsibility norm; personal (empathy, mood, competence); altruism Research methodologies and ethical principles associated with the study of memory, as outlined in the introduction to the unit. Introduction: Checking HW: Students were required to complete SAM 6.5 5 minutes Quick Quiz on yesterdays concepts: Students will have 10 15 minutes to complete the test and it will be marked as a class. Students will be advised that their result will give them an indication of how much information will be retained and how much attention they were paying to their peers when they were explaining each factor to each other. Body of Lesson: Pro-Social and Anti-Social Behaviour Power Point Characteristic of Pro-Social Behaviour Define it and identify that there are four factors that influence prosocial behaviour: Situational, Social Norms, Personal Characteristics and Altruism. Allow students time to write down important definitions Pose Question: Imagine you encounter a stranger who appears to have collapsed on the street. What factor would influence your decision whether to help or not? Write on the board the factors that they mention so that they can be referred to if they are similar to the factors covered in the power point. (5 minutes) Situational Factors: Location/Skills of the person/People present Question: Do you think that the amount of people present has a positive or negative impact on behaviour?
