Readers Workshop Nonfiction reading continues Our next unit will involve reading fiction books in a series. We will work on: Applying comprehension strategies (making connections, questioning, visualizing, inferring, summarizing, retelling, and synthesizing) Noticing similarities in a series and use it to predict character traits and plot in other books in the series. Writing

Cursive will begin 2nd quarter Nonfiction writing- We are creating a classroom book. Paragraph writing Letter writing

Computer Lab Basic keyboarding with Mrs. Neuser

Words Their Way Students will continue to work with a new sort each week. (Short weeks will be review.) Each group will have a progress spell check coming up soon. This check includes words with patterns from all the sorts they have worked with so far this year. Second quarter the students will be held more accountable for spelling in their daily work. I am encouraging them to become more resourceful. They need to start using the word wall, spelling dictionary, and personal dictionary independently.

Math Unit Four Multiplication and Division Students will understand that multiplication is putting together equal sized groups and division is sharing into equal-sized shares. Multiplication and division problems can be solved using a variety of strategies, models, and representations. We will start the unit by learning about multiplying by 0 and 1, and then move to 5s and 10s. Watch for flashcards to come home. Please practice these with your child for a few minutes each evening. Thanks Science We will be starting a new unit called Rocks and Minerals. Social Studies Map Skills- Each child needs to know: Complete address with proper spelling and punctuation We will keep reviewing the continents and oceans. We will work on Where in the World. (county, state, country etc.) Chapter 2 Communities Close-up Dates to Remember: November 1st is the end of the first quarter. No school November 4, 8, 28, and 29th. November 7th and 8th Parent/Teacher conferences

WKCE TESTING Please have your child get enough rest and eat a good breakfast on the dates listed on the attached calendar. It really does help. Homework and academics will be different on these days because of testing. Please be sure to send a healthy snack each day of the test. Thank you!
