List 7 Long Vowel /a/ spelled a, ai, a_e, ay.


Rule: [1] Long vowels say their name. [2] Double vowel: Most long vowel sounds need two letters. If a one-part word or syllable has 2 vowels, the first vowel usually stands for the long sound, and the second vowel is silent. [3] Silent e rule: If a word has one vowel at the end, it gives the first vowel a long sound.

This is a hands-on approach to spelling. First, practice making words with the sounds of letters.

Moving Letters to Make Words

Directions: Student cuts apart the letters on this page. Scramble the letters. Parents say one word from the word box. The child uses individual letters to spell each of the words in the word box.
Second, the child prints the word.
