Character Trait for the Week: Patriotism

Definition: PATRIOTISM means to feel and show deep respect

and loyalty to ones country. People who are patriotic are committed to defending the principles and values upon which a country was founded. Help develop a common vocabulary by communicating the meaning of PATRIOTISM through your daily actions. Leaders Message: Patriotism in America runs deep and goes beyond loyalty to a particular religion or ethnicity. America is a melting pot of cultures with each American being unique with his or her own set of beliefs, skin color and abilities. Americans are a group of diverse people who, while different, all adhere to a belief in freedom, democracy and equality. This makes America a country that other nations strive to copy. Action Prompt: Express your pride in your nation! In school, students recite the Pledge of Allegiance daily to show their patriotism. Americans have the freedom to show their love of their nation in a variety of different ways. Show your patriotism by hanging an American flag outside your home or visiting a Veterans Hospital. In America, we are able to do these things freely. Be proud of your American rights!
