Clean Air and Energy

A. Clean Air Benefits
1. Largest source of energy that doesnt emit any air pollutions 2. 100 reactors in 31 states provide nearly twenty percent of Americas electricity supply. 3. The process that creates nuclear energy, fission, doesnt produce greenhouse gases. 4. In 2012, greenhouse gas emissions in the power plants range were 15 percent below 2005 levels, because of carbon-free electricity produced by nuclear energy. 5. Nuclear energy facilities produce no air pollution, such as groundlevel ozone formation, smog or acid rain. 6. Independent studies show that amounts of nuclear energys emissions of carbon dioxide a close to wind and geothermal power but much less than other electricity sources

Reliable and Affordable Energy

A. Electricity Supply
1. Nuclear energy is a readily available source of energy, available 24/7. 2. Nuclear energy doesnt stop because unfavorable climate conditions, nor does it depend on fuel availability, or over dependence of supply from other countries. 3. One uranium pellet (The size of an eraser of a pencil) produces the same energy as 17,000 cubic feet of natural gas, 1,780 pounds of coal or 149 gallons of oil.

III.

Economic Growth and Job Creation

A. Economic Benefits
1. Nuclear energy strengthens the economy by adding jobs, taxes, and direct and secondary spending. 2. Nuclear energy plants make about $47 million in sales. 3. $40 million in income labor yearly 4. Nuclear energy pays for $16 million in local taxes and $ 67 million in federal taxes. 5. Construction of nuclear energy facilities creates a demand for steel, concrete, and other important elements.

Creating American Jobs

Creates 100,000 American jobs Over 15 different job opportunities in this field There will be up to 700 different positions in one nuclear energy facility By 2018 they will hire more than up to 20,000 ("Creating American Jobs." Nuclear Energy Institute -. N.p., n.d. Web. 18 Nov. 2013.)

IV.

Bad things about nuclear energy

A. Cost
1. Nuclear energy is extremely costly, averaging around a couple billion dollars for each plant. Justification: We spend exuberant amounts of money anyway, on things that dont matter, or are useless. Why not direct the money to a good cause?

B.

Nuclear Energy will not reduce dependency on Middle East

1. Nuclear energy will not decrease the dependency of the United States toward the Middle East, because oil is used for cars, not for electricity. Justification: Au contraire, because if we are able to provide a surplus of electricity, the electric car industry would blossom.

C.

Mining Issues
1. Nuclear mining contaminates water supplies. Justification: We never said it was perfect, but if you look at coal industries, and how much the pollution caused by that is affecting the environment, Nuclear energy will seem like the better choice.

2.

There is no safe way to mine uranium Justification: That is the challenge. It is what the world should be trying to figure out, not why Justin Bieber nearly punched a person in the U.K. Also, the death toll is much higher in other energy forms. Assuming Japanese nuclear
energy production at an average of 250 TWh/yr, annual deaths from nuclear energy generation would be 0.04/(TWh/yr) x 250 TWh/yr = 10, whereas annual deaths from an equal quantity of coal energy generation would be about 50/(TWh/yr) x 250 TWh/yr = 12,500
