1102 Prof Germain 10/25/13 Exploratory Essay Part I The topic that I am interested in for the exploratory essay and multi-genre project is the border wall between the United States and Mexico and its relative issues. I have decided to focus on the issue of the border wall inside the issue of illegal immigration because all the other issues within the subject seem to relate around the wall and its offshoots. I chose the overall topic of illegal immigration for several reasons. First off, I know several individuals who are illegal immigrants and who work alongside me and other citizens every day. Secondarily, these people are some of the kindest and hardest working people I know, and want only the best for me and the others who work around them. Tertiary, I know how much these illegals are weighing the system down with the violence, murders, drugs, guns, child and sex slaves, and massive amounts of people that are coming across the border of the United States. Not to mention that the United States is currently in a state of War against the Mexican Drug Cartels who constantly assault our border with drugs and full-fledged attacks on Border patrol personnel and the national guard troops on our nations southwest border. The Border Protection fence/wall or just, the wall, as it is called by many Americans has come to be quite a controversial issue in modern society and has been building infamy since its initial passing of the secure fence act of 2006 by Congress. The wall is at this point I believe to be semi-completed and has had a very interesting impact upon the overall effectiveness on the drug cartels and human traffickers ability to smuggle their product into the United States effectively but only increased their innovation and tenacity of their efforts. The

United States has answered this call by the hiring and training of more ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents and Border patrol agents and placing them on the border for extra security and to counter the increased efforts of the traffickers and Drug cartels on the other side of the wall. On the other hand, there has also been a severe increase in illegal immigrants population in the United States since the early 2000s and it clearly shows in our nations cities and low income areas as more and more illegals take up jobs to support themselves and their families as well as taking a heavy and almost irreparable toll on the economy and other areas that are part of the American way of life. Part II The

Part II The first section of part II will be an open ended argument against the completion of the border wall and the reasoning as to why it does not work. There are many reasons as to why people do not think that the border wall does not work and each is just as relative as the next but perhaps the most pressing of these is the hundreds of deaths that occur every year in the Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas Deserts and rural scrubland. Since the introduction of the wall, illegals are having to cross vast stretches of uninhabited desert and scrubland that is so barren and water is very difficult to find if any is to be found at all.
