Assessment (CA)
Aims The aim of this subject is to introduce
microprocessors and the basic principles of
applying and connecting the microprocessor to the
outside world. The subject emphasis is on
understanding the hardware architecture,
instruction set and assembly language
programming. The subject will also enable students
to develop their test and debug skills.
Module Content • Introduction to microprocessors and
microcontrollers
• The 8031 family of microcontrollers
• Software
• Real time control
• Microcontroller expansion and interfacing
techniques
Intended Learning On successful completion of the module the
Outcomes: student will be expected to be able to:
1. Describe the hardware functionality of an 8-
bit processor.
2. Describe the difference between
microprocessors and microcontrollers.
3. Write assembly language programs.
4. Describe Input/Output, Interrupt handling,
timing cycles and interfacing techniques.
5. Use software simulation, in-circuit emulators,
and programming devices.
