Angiosperms Lesson Plan Grade Level: 8 Subject: Life Science Overview & Purpose of Instructional Segment I am teaching the

students about the importance and real life aspects of angiosperms. The purpose of this instruction is so that they understand the topic of angiosperms in order to collaboratively create a presentation using an eTool to demonstrate this knowledge. Objectives

An operating computer with white board hookups and cords Have my examples bookmarked for ease of shoing them to students.

The students will gain understanding of all aspects of an angiosperm. Ability to identify the individual parts Abillity to determine the male parts from the female part Ability to distinguish the function of each part Understand the reproduction process Evaluate the steps of pollination Identify the differences and similarities of monocots and dicots Recognize evolutionary adaptations Understand the process of seed germination The class will start with a bellringer trivia/question. Today it will be a word scramble then find the correct definition. Then I will go over the agenda for the day. A review of the chapter will be given with the aid of a power point. Then I will discuss the project that they are going to be accomplishing for this chapter. While I am discussing that with them I will demostrate my example and go over the expectations and rubric. The five NET standards will be addressed in this introduction to the project. The groups will then draw a numbered stick. In order (1-7) they will sign up next to the topic that they want to present on the sign-up sheet. I will have the topics on the board, so they know what they are before they get to the sign-up sheet.

Presentation and Instructional Delivery

eTool Usage

I will be using a powerpoint to help guide the students through the review lecture. The power point will also include the agenda at the beginning of class, so they will have a heads up when they first come in.(in case they forget that I told them yesterday that we were going to do this today.) The students will have a choice of what eTool that they would like to use for their project. My example is a prezi. I gave the students a quick pretest at the beginning of the chapter. During lecture I will sporadically stop and ask questions pertaining to the material being reviewed. I will give the students a post test (the same as the pretest) after the review lecture.

Student Project Segment Overview & Purpose of Student Project Segment The students projects will be a section from the chapter and then they will reteach their portion to the class. They are to become an expert on their given topic. Given the time and the tools for this knowledge building they will learn collaboration, creativity, communication, and critical thinking through this project. Angiosperms Lesson Plan Objectives The information will be broken into equal sections, so each group of two or three (I will allow three to work together if there is a student with special needs or ELL, etc.) will have about the same amount of info to be researching on. The students will use eTools properly. They will also build on their communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking skills. My guidelines are: that it has to be finished in two class periods 3 sources used (this includes appropriate pictures) Content appropriate to topic Oral presentation should be practiced The students will have the rubrics before they present. eTool Usage I will remind the students that what they create will be openly viewed by the public. By saying that I will stress their digital footprint. I would then suggest a few places that I have worked in: Prezi, Mindmapping, Edmoto, Wordle I will have a rubric to evaluate the presentations. I will also make comments about how they can improve and what they did awesome!!

Assessment

Time Frame

The students will have two 45 minute class periods to work on this project. They have a small amount of information to put into their projects, so I feel that if I give them more time it may not be used appropriately.

Student Project: Create an example of a student project that you could showcase to your class as an example.

Relationship to the 4Cs Personal Reflection: st I feel that this lesson will incorporate the 4 Cs as well as learning in the 21 century. The 4Cs will come into play with the start of the partnerwork and through the entirety of the project. I also feel that by giving them a choice of what topic to work on and how to present their work is good teaching in the 21st century. I hope to see some unique projects and hear a lot of critical thinking along the way.

Angiosperms Lesson Plan Collaboration The collaboration will begin with the partners sitting down and letting each other know what their strengths and weakness are. After they know how best to help reach the best outcome they will start creative and critical thinking, but will always come back to collaboration before completion of the project.

page 4
What eTool or other aspect of technology help to facilitate each of the 4Cs? I like the forums. I think Edmoto would be a good choice, because all thoughts and ideas can come out and the students can work of each other and maybe create something better than if they only had their own thoughts.

Communication

The communication will begin with the partners sitting down and discussing what topic that they would like to present. After they choose their topic the are also going to communicate on what media to use to present their information. They will also be communicating their thoughts and ideas to each other throughout their entire project! Critical thinking is what I like to overhear while I am walking around the room. I believe that students employ critical thinking more when they are enjoying what they are doing. They should be looking at exaamples of similar things to get their imaginations flowing, and that should set of their critical thinking. I believe that giving them the amount of choice that I have for this project that I will see an abdundant amount of creativity. As I stated earlier, with them receiving more choices then have more access to show me what they really can do with that little bit of freedom.

Critcal Thinking

Comments I would not break groups up and have them choose a topic like this for everyy project, but I feel that I will get more of the 4 Cs out of them if I mix up the project and/or rules sometimes.
