The Police Foundation and the American Public Welfare Association conducted research in 1991 through 1993 to determine how law enforcement and CPS investigators can improve joint investigations of child abuse cases.
The main objectives were:
- To examine joint investigations at the local level already in existence through a nation survey of law enforcement and CPS agencies
- Identify elements of effective joint investigation programs
- Develop guidelines for communities to design their own programs or to enhance existing programs
The research finding are compatible with those found in similar research studies of child abuse investigations.
