There are 10 types of matches considered for marriage between a boy and girl.

Apart from analysis of house 2nd, 4th, 7th these 10 porutham (10 matches) considered important. Rashi (Moon sign) and Nakshatra constellation are important. In Tamil Tradition marriage is considered an important part in life. So it is called 'Aayiram kalathu payir' (Plant of thousand years). Excellent Porutham can be obtained by proper selection of Horoscopes of Girl and Boy.

1. Dhina porutham REPRESENTS LONGEVITY AND HEALTH Dina portham is essential for prosperous life with out poverty and diseases. You have to count from Girl's Nakshatra to Boy's Nakshatra. While counting if you get 2,4,6,8,9,11,13,15,18,20,24 or 26 there is Dina porutham exist between the two. The result is Uthamam. While counting except 1st quarter in 12th, except 4th quarter in 14th and except 3rd quarter in 16th are Mathimam.

All others and Ashtama Rashi Nakshatras are Athamam or no match. Ashtama Rashi means 8th rasi. For example 8th for Tarurus is Saggittarius. Moolam 1,2,3,4 Pooradam 1,2,3,4 Uthiradam 1 belongs to that rashi. When girls Nakshatra belongs to Rishab (Taurus) All nakshatras of Saggittarius won't match. Aega Nakhsatra / Same Nakshatra: When both boy and girl have Rohini, Thiruvathirai, Poosam, Maham, Hastham, Thirivonam Dhina porutham will be uthamam. When both have Ashwini, Bharani, Karthikai, Mrigashrish, Punarpoosam, Uthiram, Chithirai, Anusham the Dina portuham result will be Mathimam. When both have same rashi boy's nakshatra should precede girls. When both have same Nakshatra should precede that of the girl. The rest 13 won't match. If you get 27 while counting match is considered, only if the rasi is same otherwise there is no match. While counting from girl's Nakshatra if boy's comes as 7th, it is called 'vatham'. While counting from boy's nakshatra if girl's comes as 22nd it is called 'vinashika'. Vahtam and 'Vinashika' sould be rejected. This is primary method for calculating dhina porutham. There is other method using Janmam, Anu Janmam, thri janmam. This is least used method, hence I am not explaining it here.

2. Gana porutham COMPATIBILITY OF TEMPERAMENT 1. Deva Ganam:These persons are supposed to be well behaved, Affectionate, Soft and Good natured with good Character and High values. 2. Manusha Ganam:Men and Women of this category will have all the good and bad qualities of human beings. Their behaviour is good but they also tend to show their anger, enmity at times. 3. Rakshasa Ganam:The behavior, nature, and character of this category of people are expected to be Aggressive, Rude and Rough.

It is difficult for them to co-operate with others. They can upset others by their unpleasant behavior and talk Many times they will think they are right and others are wrong. If both boy and girl belongs to Rakshash gana the match is uthamam. If boy belongs to rakshash Gana and the girl belongs to any Gana the match will be Mathimam. If girl belongs to rakshash Gana and there is no match if boy belongs to any other gana. This match will determine mangala or auspiciousness.

3. Mahendra porutham WELLBEING, LONGEVITY AND VAMSAVRIDDHI Even though this porutham is examined for wellbeing, Longevity and the growth of the family this alone is not enough. Whether this Porutham is available or not it is better to examine the Girl and Boy horoscopes further and decide about the growth of the family. If counted from girl's nakshatra if you get 4,7,10,13,16,19,22,25 the match is uthamam. Otherwise no match.

4. Sthree Theerkam LONGEVITY OF THE BRIDE This Porutham gives an idea about the Life Expectancy of the Girl. Also this helps for a comfortable married life. It is believed that the Girl will live for a long time as the wife and her life will end before her husband's life in the old age. That is she will attain the Lotus Feet of God as a Sumangali. However regarding the Life expectancy it is better to check her horoscope. While counting from the Girl's nakshatra if boy's comes above 13 the match is uthamam. If it comes above 7 mathima porutham. This porutham gives good longevity and prosperity.

5. Yoni Porutham COMPATIBILITY OF SEX Yoni represents sex organs. If this Porutham is available intimacy of the couple will be satisfactory. Therefore this is considered as important and mandatory. Marriage will not be recommended if Yoni porutham is absent. Each Star is given the name of an animal. If the animals are friendly Yoni is compatible. Unexpected and unnecessary expenditures. 5. problems from children If both the boy and girl belongs to the same rashi or boy's rashi is greater than 6 while counting from girl's rasi the match is uthamam. While counting from girl's rashi if boy's rashi comes at 3,4 the match is mathimam. 6th and 8th rashi is sashtamsam and hence won't match

7. Rashi athipathi (lord) Each house in the RASI chart is ruled by one of the Navagrahas (Planet).. Some planets have two places. The planet ruling the house of the Birth Star is 'RASI ADHIPATHI'.
