Mood Boards:
What Are Mood Boards?
Mood Boards are poster like designs that include images, text and other objects to offer an illustrate vision on various different ideas the creator has, usually describing a specific subject or story. These boards allow ideas to flow and provide concepts for others. Usually created digitally. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mood_board http://www.wisegeek.org/what-is-a-mood-board.htm

Moodboard Example #1:

Here is an example of a mood board. This mood board is clearly about Hip-Hop, giving us an insight of the months magazine covers. The mood board shows us the hottest artists in the US Rap scene at the moment. Giving us the impression of the High Life fame and glamour. The use of a variety of different colours acts as eye candy to the public, catching attention and representing the traditional Hip-Hop culture with different fonts, colorful text and pictures of artists. This could be used by magazine publishing companies for advertising purposes to promote hip-hop magazines on websites to help boost sales and could be created on software packages such as photoshop.

MoodBoard Example #2:

Here is another example of a mood board, however, this particular mood board is completely different to others. Instead of using bright attracting colors with positive pictures, this board focuses on a dull effect giving us the impression of negativity. The moon board is about the Horror film Cannibal, so the use of dull colours is used to represent tragedy and horror. Screenshots from the movie have been taken from the official movie and could be used by film companies for advertising or to give fans an insight of the fim before official release date using still shots taken from the movie, this mood could have been create on an online software package known as sample board . All pictures within the board relate and are used to tell the story of the Cannibal.

Mind Maps/Spider Diagrams:

What is a mind map/spider diagram?
Mind maps and spider diagrams have the same purpose and provide a detailed plan of a specific topic. Both are created around a keyword which is placed in the centre and surrounded by associated ideas. Each branch goes into detail and elaborates on various ideas , and sub branches are then used to elaborate more on the specific sub heading. Usually created by hand or could be created digitally on Mind Map creating applications such as Mind Jet or MindMeister.

Mind Map Example #1:

This an example of a mind map, focusing on Health as the main subject. Sub headings such as Diet and Exercise are both seen to be used as sub headings to elaborate on various different sub categories which have an involvement with the main subject.

However there are branches leading from the sub headings which lead to other topics the sub heading may include. This allows the user to cover each subject in detail. Mind maps can be used in any media company, and is used as a pre-production document and acts as a starting point to any idea allowing the creator to elaborate on ideas and form a structure to their work, also allowing other input and feedback suggested by members of production team to be added to the initial plan. Can be created on software packages like Eddraw Mind Map which allows you to create and customise mood boards.

Spider Diagram Example #1:

Here is an example of a spider diagram. Just like a mind map it uses on key word in the centre and is surrounded by branches which lead to sub headings and different ideas which relate to the selected topic. This could be used for any media organisation and just like a mind map it creates a structure to the beginning of an idea, the first step taken when planning. Usually created by hand.

Visualisation Diagrams:
What are Visualisation Diagrams ? A Visualisation Diagram is just like a mind map, a source of structure for you initial idea. However, this specific type of diagram uses pictures/images instead of just words and written text. Mainly used to visualise web pages.

This diagram uses both text and pictures to provide help and support to its user, using familiar icons/images to help carry out the step by step instructions to convert Project & Media from file format FCP to Avid successfully without any problems. This diagram is very effective its clear and easy to understand and could be used in any business to help employees create specific content usually product design. http://acomp.stanford.edu/tutorials/storyboarding This is an example of a storyboard. The purpose of this specific story board is to tell the story of young person learning about creating storyboards, each box represents a scene for the Video product, there are 9 shots in total and each box has unique instructions which is followed by camera operators and directors. Providing a detailed plan of how each shot should look, with instructions to the different camera shots and angles and what happens in each shot. Also providing information about when Dialogue should be used by characters. Storyboards should be used for every video production to act as a plan to run by. For example TV programme production companies will use storyboards like this to indicate what will happen in each shot, used as a pre-production document and could be created on software packages such as Storyboard artist which allows you to create your idea from scratch. http://www.powerproduction.com/storyboard-artist.html

Storyboard Example #2
This storyboard has been created differently from the previous example. Here we have an example of a Digital made storyboard which provides shot by shot instructions on how to film a specific scene to a video production. The storyboard shows each how each shot should be filmed and also tells the camera operator or director what frame rate each scene should be filmed at. Each box is a detailed version of each scene providing a clear guidance plan that should be followed when filming. Duration of each shot and camera movements are also listed as should be. http://scoaladecinema.ro/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/storyboard-1.jpg For example Animation companies such as who create cartoons such as Pokemon will use the storyboard to plan each individual shot before creating the episode. Could be created on a software package known as Toon Boom Storyboard Pro https://www.toonboom.com/products/storyboardpro

Storyboard Example #3
This example is short and less detailed, however, it still provides information required to create a scene to a video production. Each shot is listed a specific shot with stage directions, camera movement, how each scene should be shot, what characters are involved and detailed drawings of how the actors should be. This has been drawn by hand, and provides a sequence to how a specific scene should be filmed. Fashion companies will hire a film crew to film an advert to promote an upcoming winter collection of clothing which will be used on television to advertise their new product, storyboards will be used to plan the advert, including any effects, titles and animation added before filming and editing. Could be created on software packages such as Frame Forge http://www.frameforge3d.com/Products/Core-Version/
