match up Date: February 21, 2014 A new PPP survey in New Hampshire finds that Jeanne Shaheen has expanded her lead over Scott Brown to 8 points in a hypothetical match up, up from a 3 point advantage on a survey a month ago. Additionally Browns favorability has declined by a net 7 points over the last month in the wake of an early tv advertising campaign concerning his record in the Senate on tax breaks for oil companies. Key findings from the survey include: -Shaheen now leads Brown 47/39 in a potential match up. A PPP survey in early January found her ahead just 46/43. Shaheens taken the lead with independent voters at 41/37 after the two were previously tied, and shes winning 84% of the Democratic vote while holding Brown to just 76% with Republicans. -Brown, already unpopular with New Hampshire voters, has seen his image take a greater hit in the last month. In January he had a -6 net favorability rating at 34/40, and now thats worsened by another seven points to a -13 rating at 34/47. With the independents who are critical to winning elections in the Granite State he stands at 34/45. -LCVs ad buy over the last two and a half weeks on Browns record concerning tax breaks for oil companies has likely played a large role in driving down his poll numbers. 56% of voters in the state say theyre less likely to vote for a candidate who voted to provide tax breaks for oil companies, compared to only 9% who consider that to be a positive. That issue has been a focal point of LCVs early ads. PPP interviewed 686 New Hampshire voters on February 19th and 20th. The margin of error for the poll is +/-3.7%. This survey was conducted on behalf of the League of Conservation Voters.
