Name of Activity: Learning from Leaders: Charlie Arnot Leadership Skills and Attributes Goal For This Activity: Focus specifically on being more aware of trends and issues in the global and domestic agriculture community relative to where the industry will go in the future Briefly summarize the activity: I had the chance to introduce and listen to Charlie Arnot speak about his role with the Center for Food Integrity. I was able to glean a lot of good information about the importance of consumers in our industry and how they will affect the future growth and trends of the agriculture community. hat ne! kno!led"e or ideas did you learn by bein" involved in this activity# Charlie shared a wealth of knowledge about consumer trends and information that I think is sometimes overlooked by producers in agriculture. I became much more aware of what consumers look for from their food supply and thought that there is a valuable lesson to be learned that every segment of our industry should not compete with each other but rather have respect for one another.

hat kno!led"e or ideas about your leadership skills and attributes did you learn from this activity# I think that I learned a lot about how I can better agvocate about the industry and approach conversations more from a purely consumer mindset. Coming from an animal production background! it is sometimes hard for me to do that but now I my understanding will allow me to connect the thoughts of consumers with the facts of the industry.

&o! did the activity impact the community# 'Ans!er if applicable( $ot applicable. &o! did your involvement in the activity impact you 'on a personal level(# I had the chance to connect with Charlie and introduce him prior to his speech so that gave me another connection in the industry. I also think that it%s good for me to understand consumer ideology and demands because I know the industry I will work in will be faced with multiple challenges associated with those sorts of trends. hy does this learnin" matter) or !hy is it important# It%s important for me because I have to know these sorts of things in my future career. &he understanding of this information will be vital for me to know key success factors for the industry while also strategically making decisions especially as I work my way into leadership positions with future employers. %n !hat !ays !ill you use !hat you have learned from this activity# 'eing involved in the (urdue Ag )eek &ask Force! I play a large role in helping create messaging and marketing tactics to communicate agriculture facts to non*agriculture students. +nowing the mindset of these students can be really valuable when creating the strategy of how we best accomplish our purpose of Ag )eek. 'eyond that role! I know that I can put a lot of the information learned in the workshop into my future career.
