Running head: THE STATUS OF EDUCATION IN MEXICO

As mentioned in the Global Education First Initiative, the three priorities are put every child in school, improve the quality of learning, and foster global citizenship ("Priorities,). Foster global citizenship wants education to give people the understanding, skills and values they need to cooperate in resolving the interconnected challenges of the 21st Century. In the United Nations website under Education for all, there is an overview of Education for All Goals and the Millennium Goals ("Education for all,). The content in this website claims that education beats poverty, promotes gender equality, reduces child mortality, contribute to improved maternal health, helps combat HIV, malaria and other preventable diseases, encourages environmental sustainability, and helps global development. The website argues that these issues can be addressed with education. From The World Bank website, we can tell that the primary gross enrolment percent has been steadily increasing from five years ("School enrollment, primary," ). From the year 2004 to 2006, there was a slight decrease. Then from 2006 to 2011 there was an increase. In 2011, the percent of enrolment was 104.2. This second image is to show the percent of enrollment in secondary schools in Mexico. As we can see, in 2004, the percentage was 78.3, but in 2011 it was 84.1. So overall there is an increase. This image was also taken from the World Bank Website. School enrollment, secondary (% gross)

Even though the enrolment percentages have increased in the primary and secondary levels, there are still problems that Mexicos education status has gotten better over time that are aiding the three priorities of the First Initiative. I am writing this paper to inform how Mexico is addressing the three priorities of education. Expenditure per student, primary and secondary (% of GDP per capita)

The image above shows the gross domestic product per person. As we can, see the country of Mexico has made an effort to put more money for students. The increase is small but there seems to be a steady increase from 2007 to 2010. The increase in the money put into education might possibly be helping the enrolment in primary and secondary schools. One of the priorities is to provide students with quality education. In the article Education at a Glance they gathered information about the worlds education status. In an article that they cited (2007 Mexican national survey of parents) it said that the parents agreed that the education that their children are receiving is good and better than the education they had. By achieving the first two priorities their foster global citizenship rate is increasing.
