From the second paragraph, the letter clearly states the static features of the purpose explaining the strengths for the job position. Mary formed a first impression from the letters envelope, format and neatness which is the important part of nonverbal communication. The strong Para language and the tone gave a pleasing sway on the receiver. She tried to present the best she could do. Some strong objectives (Additionally, Specifically) has been mentioned which are unnecessary and can be rephrased. Nonverbal message can accent a verbal message sometimes; it may substitute the verbal message too. Mary should have mentioned some outstanding strengths as Ms. Eva Lewis might have formed a frozen evaluation of her based on the nonverbal message. To increase the chances of consent, Verbal communication has to be used to develop the credibility of the information. To be perceived as credible, the ability to empathize with the receiver is important. Mary should have framed the ideas in explaining how her experience is important to them and how they can benefit. To give a prominence on the receiver, Mary should have clearly enunciated each sentence, phrase and word.
