Aurora Charter Schools Empowerment Committee (EC):

(1) Members: Liliana Rodriguez (6-8 interventionist), Abby Olson (ELL), Betsy Foster (3-5 interventionist), Joy Decker (SPED), Jen Fielder (psych), Matt Cisewski (admin), K-2 member (TBD) (2) Logistics: Meet every other Thursday starting 3/13/2014 at 2:45 PM. Set up g-mail account: empower.students@gmail.com (in process, final email address TBD) to organize and manage email, docs, and calendar (3) Process: Current school year: Student specific problem-solving: a. Teacher fills out form on Google Docs. Assigned grade level designee will review form and schedule meeting. b. At the EC meeting, the teacher shares with the team the concerns, reviews current intervention data (if any) and the team brainstorms what scientifically research-based interventions are to be done for 6-8 weeks and determines method of data collection. c. Interventionist carries out intervention for 6-8 weeks, collecting data no less than bi-weekly (preferably weekly) d. After the 6-8 weeks, the team reviews the intervention data and documentation and the team utilizes data-based decision making in order to determine whether to continue the intervention, modify the intervention, or add another intervention for six additional weeks. e. If the student does not make adequate progress (as demonstrated by the data) after receiving two scientifically research-based interventions, then the EC will refer that student to the Child Study Team in order to plan an initial special education evaluation. (4) Current school-wide interventions already in place: a. K-2: Rubenia provides interventions (more information needed) b. 3-5: Betsy provides reading and math interventions i. Math: Small group pull-out; 4 students or less, re-teach lessons & background knowledge 30 min 5x week; Data collected: Unit tests used for data once a month

ii. Reading: Read Naturally for 3-4th grades 3x/ week for 30 min; leveled readers for comprehension; 5th grade: using classroom curriculum & stories; breaking down & reteaching, vocabulary development c. 6-8: Liliana provides leveled math class (Data collected: MCA scores, classroom observation; WIDA math comprehension); language arts provides leveled Language Arts class d. ELL: Abby and Rachele provide ELL interventions i. Middle School: small group for Level 1 & 2 (sheltered LA by ESL teacher) ii. Elementary: 3-4: Co-teaching in classroom; small group; and 1:1 for Level 1 iii. No ESL services for K-2 (majority of instruction in native language) e. After School Tutoring: teachers refer based on grades (data collected?) (5) Going forward: meet Friday 3/7 @ 7:00 AM a. Discuss forms b. Discuss data collection methods (including easycbm.com) c. Create notice to send out to teachers about Empowerment Committee d. Find K-2 member e.
