In the 19th century, hydropower became the source of generating electricity. The first hydroelectric power plant was built in Niagara falls in 1879.
WHERE AND WHY WAS IT DISCOVERED HAS A SOURCE OF ENERGY AND WHERE IS IT CURRENTLY BEING USED. Why?
Hydroelectricity discovered electricity plants where they make electricity. The people discovered it because they wanted more electricity. Hydroelectricity is currently being used in the USA, Canada, China, Brazil, Russia, Norway, India, Venezuela etc. Use of running water for mechanical energy has been used for centuries so I guess when electricity was discovered and it was useful some had the bright idea of connecting a water wheel to a dynamo. This would have been in the mid 1800 sometime.
How much energy can it produce? How does this compare other sources of energy used in this area?
Hydroelectric power now supplies about 715000MWE of world electricity. The amount of energy a hydropower plant produces depends on two factors: 1. How far the water falls 2. Amount of water flowing in the river.
How does the choice of the source of energy impact or effect the people that live in this area?
Hydropower has no air quality and then hydropower dams can significcally effect natural riror system as well as fish and wild life populations. Large dams reservers can have other imbets on a water shed.
