HAMMONDVILLE NEEDS ENERGY!

You and your partners have just applied for a competitive job as energy planners for a new city, Hammondville. Mayor Hammond, the mayor of Hammondville, doesn't know anything about the different types of energy. Your team will be competing against other teams to convince Mayor Hammond to choose your energy plan over theirs. Below are the criteria he will be using to judge: o Cost analysis - Is it worth it? Mayor Hammond wants to get the most possible energy at the cheapest price, so people will want to live in Hammondville. Environmental Effects - Mayor Hammond, like many people, really cares about the environment. He wants Hammondville to be a clean city and a good example for other cities around the world. Persuasiveness - You can have the best plan in the world, but if you don't present it right it won't matter. Make sure to convince Mayor Hammond that your idea is the best one.

Presentation Tips: To have the best chance of being chosen, you want to achieve the best possible "balance" of both criteria above. Presenting "just the cheapest" or "just the cleanest" energy source won't necessarily be the best option. Hammondville needs energy and Mayor Hammond understands that sometimes you have to make sacrifices. Build your case: describe all of the reasons why your energy source is the best for Hammondville. The more evidence you have, the more persuasive it is! You may also consider giving reasons why other energy sources are not the best choice. Be prepared to explain how your type of energy works, in depth. Mayor Hammond doesnt know much about energy, so you can expect him to ask a lot of questions! Try to emphasize all of the positive aspects of your energy source, but also be aware of the negative ones. Mayor Hammond will most likely have questions about these possible negative effects, so be ready to answer them! Make sure that all of your facts are correct. Having wrong information will destroy your credibility with Mayor Hammond. Why should he listen to your ideas if he can't even trust your data? You will present privately to Mayor Hammond - not to the class You are trying to impress the mayor dress for success!
