Rand English 1102-021 19 March, 2014 Annotated Bibliography Inquiry Question: How does ones economic status affect their ability to receive and afford health insurance? 1. List of Keywords: Medicaid, Medicare, affordable care act, Obama Care Plan, employee based insurance, health insurance, states with Medicaid/Medicare, Medicaid beneficiaries, private insurance, Medicaid/Medicare eligibility, Medicaid expansion I choose these keywords listed above because I was trying to analyze all aspects of health insurance from two different standpoints. I will take a look at the Medicaid and Medicare requirements and what both of these aids cover compared to that of private insurance. Therefore while looking up different sources I tried to look for items that were in two different categories. 2. Concept Map:
Comment [MR1]: This concept map looks good!

2 3. Synthesis/Analysis: My sources as seen in the concept map above, correlate in relationship to health insurance plans and how Medicaid, Medicare, and even private insurance plans are affected by the Obama care plan. I brought about this issue because I notice the many effects of not having insurance effects multiple Americans in the world today. Why would Obama Care make health insurance mandatory even for those who are poor or unemployed? If they cannot afford to pick up an insurance plan why would penalize those who are poor? I think that the government needs to reassess the facts about insurance plans and what health procedures are covered in both Medicare and private insurance plans. This thought process helped me pinpoint the resources I needed and the topics that I needed extra research on to place an opinion on in my inquiry paper. In my first source which is seen to be an interview from my grandmother, I have come up with a list of questions about her recent Medicare plan and how she is affected negatively and positively from her insurance coverage. Also, I plan on asking her about her personal opinion and how she feels about the Obama care plan and how this reform affects her as an American. Therefore this interview relates to my other sources in a sense that this is a real, personal example of the effects that the government has on its citizens. Secondly, the next source is a video clip from YouTube that explains the debates over how states want to eliminate Medicare coverage for its residence due to the high prices it causes others. The next three sources relate some coverage plans for example pregnancy and tobacco dependent patients to the Medicaid plan, and some statistics on who is covered by or has Medicare/Medicaid, the race and economical situations that these beneficiaries have. All of this information ties together at the role of accessing and pinpointing the reasons why

3 Medicare/Medicaid is not on the same playing fields as private insurance, and how this all conclusively is affected by Obamas Reform act on health insurance. 4. Works Cited: Hargrove, Mary. Personal interview. 20 Mar.ch, 2014.
Comment [MR3]: This is definitely an interesting topic. Have you found anything from the point of view of the insurance companies? I think that would provide some interesting material too. Comment [MR4]: The citations should be alphabetized. Comment [MR5]: This would have the authors last name listed first.
