Outcomes:
• Students will understand the importance of assessing online resources
• Students will learn and apply three simple criteria for assessing website
credibility
Process:
• Discuss the importance of knowing the credibility of information sources
• Have students explore a website with false information (ie.
http://www.dhmo.org)
• Discuss the factors that lead to a website with false information convincing a
student
• Introduce and explain the three criteria for a credible website (authorship,
documentation and appearance)
• Apply the three criteria to the first website used – fill in the Comparing Website
Credibility Chart. Complete the chart with two other sites
• Throughout the year, as students work on projects involving online research,
ask students to complete a Website Credibility for Research Projects chart.
