Midterm
1. Based on the work I have completed for this course thus far I feel I deserve a B (80-89%) in this class. Based on the syllabus, in order to receive a B for this course, the e-portfolio must be thoughtfully arranged and navigable. Each assignment must also be completed to the best of the authors ability. I have missed a few assignments (reading response letters) but completed the other work on time. Each assignment I have done, I did to the best of my ability. I try my best to FULLY answer questions on my weebly page and COMPLETE each part of every post. I attempt to participate in EVERY class though I was once five minutes late to class. From my point of view I believe my weebly site is well organized, easy to navigate, and appealing to the eye. In this first part of the semester, I have become more comfortable with the writing and revision process as well as making connections. Before this semester I was unsure what my writing process is. I didnt have a system to my writing. Our textbook Understanding Rhetoric helped me develop a more systematic approach to writing. While reading this book, I also discovered my role as a peer when editing classmates papers. I am finding it easier to make connections to what I write and read. It is especially easy to make connections to my exploratory essay because it is something I am passionate about. In the second half of the semester I hope to develop a stronger understanding of independent inquiry. 2. I analyzed the e-portfolio done by Lindsey (#2). Her portfolio was very easy to navigate and appealing to the eye. I love all the pictures and cute sayings she includes in her portfolio. It made it more enjoyable to read. She has given me a few ideas for directions to take in my portfolio design and content wise. Page 59 is my favorite page in the textbook so far. Based on the frame about rhetorical analysis, I believe Lindsey is trying to appeal to pathos. The multi-modal characteristic she uses most is visual. The ways the photographs are arranged on the page with bright colors help the reader to read in her perspective. It gives the reader a glance into her thoughts and what she is seeing. I feel that Lindseys e-portfolio was successful. Not only was it easy to navigate and appealing, it also included all required assignments, which clearly reflected her thoughts and ideas. 3. My extended inquiry project is on gymnastics. My question is: How does gymnastics prepare you for the challenges life will bring? I imagine if I were sitting at a round table discussing this topic, Olympic gymnastics coaches Bela and his wife Marta Karolyi would be there as well as Olympic gymnast Alli Riesman, The coach of another sport arguing against me, and a college professor also arguing against me. The sports coach and college professor could argue that their sport or teaching could prepare you for life more than gymnastics could. Bela, Marta, and Alli could argue that gymnastics does prepare you for everything in life.
