No Church in the Wild CM

This lyric is questioning power and states how the general cycle of how power
works. As it works its way around, a "god" somehow comes to the mercy of a human, or
"non-believer," as stated in the lyric. The theme of the verse is to say that god is not all
powerful, or at least according to Frank Ocean. The singer is an obvious atheist. I like
this lyric because it is from the point of view of someone who doesn't believe in "god"
and "prayer," and sometimes, those types of people are the most grounded and
interesting types of people. This verse reflects this situation exactly; A preachy Catholic
will go on and on about how powerful The Lord is and yet what power does he hold
against someone who doesn't believe in him? "God" will not just strike someone down
for not believing in him, so then what power does he really have? These are questions
the singer has posed. Many other religious elements are questioned in the song as well.
The honesty of priests, the truth behind religious feast days, and the idea of Jesus and
the Holy Spirit are all questioned, verse by verse. I am not able to answer these
questions, and I doubt any average Catholic could, so this song makes me question a
lot of things myself. These questions and feelings of doubt that were stirred because of
these song lyrics are what make the lyrics so "poetic."
