Prominent themes in this lm is society, race, and class. Although there is some variety in economic
and social class, race is the number one determinant of a person's place in the time. Race also
determines who has access to educational, occupational, and economic opportunity. These factors
can be seen many time in the lm.
"If you can love your enemy, you already have victory."
Regular movie format
This movie helps me to gain perspective on how black women were treated and their social
status in the 1960s. I obviously have no personal connections to slavery or racial intolerance, so
I cannot say this strikes me personally, but it does still make for a poetic watch.

"So this is my life. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I'm still
trying to gure out how could that be."
This movie has a very dened theme of sadness. The main character, charlie, dances on the
ne line of being sad and being depressed. He does whatever he can to turn away this
sadness.
Regular movie format; the drugs and sex are symbols of escape for the struggling Charlie.
The movie is about the struggles of a teenage boy and the hardships he is going through. The
movie has a really depressing tone to it, and that is what makes it so poetic. I think this movie
deserved to be logged because so many of my logs have been stu! that strikes positive feelings,
when the fact of the matter is poetic things can invoke both positive and negative feelings. This is
one of the negatives.
