The missionary is reaching out and helping the starving child who is, obviously from the picture, in
dire need of it. It gives o! a sad theme, due to the child's malnourishment, but it also gives o! a tone
of hope from the missionary who is helping out.
The Picture shows a starving boy and a missionary holding hands.
The holding of the hands is a big symbol of help, a symbol of reaching out, and a sign of saving.
This picture struck me with pure awe, the hand is extremely small and malnourished, so my mind is
wondering what the entire body must look like. Poetic, most denitely, because of the grief and
horror that was rst instilled into me at the sight of the dying boy.

Scratch marks on a wall of an Auschwitz gas chamber.
Obviously, it shows the pure desperation the Jews that were put into it had towards escaping,
despite their e!orts being futile. It shows just how cruel the things the Jews had to go through
during the Holocaust were.
The scratch marks on the wall showed the struggle they went through. The photo is also in black
and white, to emphasize the tone of the picture and how somber it is
This picture struck me as simply shocking. An intense feeling of awe and horror came over me while realizing
what this picture was really all about. This is what makes the photo so poetic; its ability strike the viewer with
the "oh my God" type of feeling.
