StayTeen. Teen Pregnancy. THE NATIONAL CAMPAIGN TO PREVENT TEEN AND UNPLANNED
PREGNANCY. 7 Oct 2012. Web. 16 Apr 2014.

Parenthood is the leading reason why teen girls drop out of school; after all,
its really difficult to juggle homework and a baby. Less than half of teen
mothers ever graduate from high school and fewer than 2% earn a college
degree by age 30. Children of teen mothers do worse in school than those
born to older parentsthey are 50% more likely to repeat a grade, are less
likely to complete high school than the children of older mothers, and have
lower performance on standardized tests.

It is common knowledge today that teens that get pregnant are doomed to
have terrible lives. They believe that they will have bad jobs, and they will
less likely get into college. Stayteen.org also believes that pregnant teens
have a lower graduation rate than the non-pregnant teens. Even so, I
believe that teens that are pregnant can make their lives better or worse
depending on the situation. The reason I believe this is because some
pregnant teens hold on to their dreams of graduation, and they plan to get
their life back on track, and they dont let pregnancy weigh them down.

Child Trends. (2013). Teen Pregnancy. December 2013. 17 Apr 2014.

Teen pregnancies have negative consequences for the adolescents and their
children. The majority of teen pregnancies are unintended. In 2006 37
percent of the teens ended childbirth in abortion, while the rest of the 63%
ended in childbirth. Teen parenthood is linked to greater welfare dependence
soon after birth, and to poorer long-term educational outcomes, as well
instability in family structure. Moreover, research finds that children of teen
mothers fare worse on cognitive and behavioral outcomes than their peers
with older mothers.

Most people assume that the best option when it comes to teen pregnancy is
to get rid of the baby to prevent further harm towards their future. Society
also believes that a child born to a teen will have a future full of hardships. I
have always believed that to be true because the teens wouldnt be able to
afford school, and children, and the men usually leaves. So I have come to
say that it is true because kids will have a more terrible future with
hardships so that is that.

Guttmacher. In Brief: Fact Sheet. Facts on American Teens Sexual and Reproductive Health. June
2013. 17 Apr 2014.

Fewer than 2% of adolescents have had sex by the time they reach their
12th birthday. But adolescence is a time of rapid change. Only 16% of teens
have had sex by age 15, compared with one-third of those aged 16, nearly
half (48%) of those aged 17, 61% of 18-year-olds and 71% of 19-year-olds.
There is little difference by gender in the timing of first sex. On average,
young people have sex for the first time at about age 17, but they do not
marry until their mid-20s. This means that young adults may be at increased
risk for unintended pregnancy and STIs for nearly a decade or longer.

It is the assumption that teens in their teenage years will have sex. That is
true due to the fact that teen pregnancy has increased over the years in
some states, and have stayed constant in the others. They say that the older
they get, the more chances they will have sex. And they are doomed to
more STIs and other things.
