Course Description: This course will meet during the same class period as the regular Band class and will
include all material, requirements and commitments of the Band class. In addition to the material and
requirements of the Band class, the Instrumental Music Honors students will be exploring music in a
more individual basis and will focus on the development of solo repertoire. Through individual study,
students enrolled in the Instrumental Music Honors course will be prepared to audition for positions in
the WV All-State Band, the Kanawha County Schools All-County Band, and various collegiate Honor
Bands as well as being prepared to participate in the Regional Solo and Ensemble Festival.

Pre-requisite: Students must have successfully completed one year of Instrumental Music at the High
School level prior to enrolling in Instrumental Music Honors. In addition to this pre-requisite, students
must audition before the director. This audition will consist of the scales required for Kanawha County
All-County Band auditions and a short solo. The director will aid students in choosing a solo.

Course Requirements:
Full participation in the regular Band course
Private lessons whether paid through a third party or with the director
Students enrolled in this course Must audition for the All-State Band
Students enrolled in this course Must audition for the Kanawha County All-County Band
Students enrolled in this course Must participate in the Regional Solo and Ensemble Festival
Students enrolled in this course Must participate in at-least one ensemble outside of the regular
Band.

Grading: Students enrolled in the Instrumental Music Honors course will be graded on exactly criteria
and scale as students enrolled in the Band course. The additional course requirements of Instrumental
Music Honors are evaluated on a pass/fail basis. Failure to meet any one of the course requirements
will result in an automatic failing grade in Instrumental Music Honors.
