How does close reading ultmately improve stu-
dent success? We will use research based meth-
ods and skills in order to begin the process of in-
corporatng close and meaningful reading into all
classrooms.

Whether it is a science lab, a DBQ, a math prob-
lem or an essay, identfying and skillfully incorpo-
ratng evidence is essental to CCLS learning. We
will examine techniques to include evidence in
everyday class actvites. Teachers will be pre-
sented with tools to help students to adept in
identfying, classifying and clarifying evidence.

Understanding
Inquiry learning is a building block to career and
college readiness. We will study how asking and
crafing the right questons can help to organize,
guide, and enhance independent learning.

Delineatng the purpose, premise, reasoning, and
evidence of a well-crafed argument is not just at
the Core of the CCLS but the core of developing
students who can make informed and qualifed
decisions. We will explore both the skills and
scafolding necessary to aide students to craf
well-thought arguments.

How English teachers and History teachers view an
infuental historical text difers based on content and
context. Explore how both context and content can
work together to improve students understanding of
a text.

Not everyone is a literacy expert, but the CCLS de-
mands that educators incorporate reading and
writng into every all content areas. We will locate
quality and high-interest resources that connect to
most curricula and learn about comprehension tools
to assess understanding.

prehensionofLiterature
Kylene Beers book provides great tools to build com-
prehension skills. Her signposts and techniques
resound with both adept and struggling readers. We
will examine and practce using her tools as building
blocks for student success.

GetngtotheBonesofaModule(6+hrs)
Using the modules as tools, well examine how to
scafold and build units. We will chart the skills within
one unit look at both the scafolding and the rigor of
the module. We will then begin to build a unit to-
gether that meets a school, grade, or teachers needs.

We will explore pre-created tools and websites that
correlate directly with the CCLS standards and help
build career and college ready students who can think
independently. Teachers will leave with tools they
can use immediately to help students succeed.

access to computers or tablets to explore tools.

We will examine tools and techniques connect-
ed directly with Robert Marzanos Art and Sci-
ence of Teaching and identfy simple ways to
incorporate technology with purpose.

NPRandPublicMediafortheClassroom
Using NPR, other online media we will explore
non-fcton high-interest resources that ft into
course content for nearly every subject area in
grades 5 and up. We will look at lesson models
and actvites that help build comprehension and
inquiry based learning.
GoogleTools
Google Drive is an excellent way to collaborate
and build a paperless classroom. Tools like
Google Forms allow for quick assessment or sur-
veying of an audience. Googles advanced
search features and other tools help users be-
come more efcient researchers and simplify
complex processes by moving them online. We
will explore Googles oferings and discoverer
every day ways it can make lives easier.

We will look at tools like Livebinders, Google
Drive,Instapaper,Zite(iPadsneeded),Learnist,
and other tools to help us and our students work
smarter and more efciently.
ReinventngTheResearchProject
There are many online tools available to help
students present what they learn. We shall look
at presentaton tools , like Prezi, and other
methods of sharing what they learned , like
Blogs, Webpages, Forums and more!
