Lesson plan 2

Class: 10
th
Subject: Mathematics
Topic: Graphs Duration: 1

hour
Subtopic: Distance- time and Velocity-time graph
Objectives:
By the end of this lesson students will be able to
Read and interpret distance-time and velocity-time graph.
Find out the area covered by the vehicle at different instants
Find out the positions of the vehicle at different time.
Resources
Smart phones or ipads with Aurasma app installed in it, White or
black board, Marker/ chalks, Worksheets.
Activity done by the teacher prior to the class
Teacher will prepare related auras (auras which show different
animated vehicles moving in different directions and the relation
between their speed and the time, taken by them for covering the
distance is presented in the graph. An aura that displays a video
demonstrating the different way of finding out the different values of
area, or acceleration should also be developed) on the Aurasma studio
prior to the class to facilitate the students learning. Teacher will alspo
prepare the worksheets for the students.
Motivational Activity
Teacher will discuss in the class the previously learnt concepts of
speed, time, distance, velocity and acceleration using bubble activity.
Teacher will further clarify any misconceptions about the learnt ideas.
Developmental activity:
Teacher will first discuss with the students the concepts of
dependent and independent variables and their position on the graphs.
Further discussion regarding basic concepts of, speed-time and velocity-
time graphs will take place. Worksheets containing different velocity-time
and distance-time graphs will be given to the students and they will be
divided into pairs.
By keeping Aurasma app on the initial two graphs the students will
become able to watch a video of an animated vehicle thats velocity-time
or speed-time graph is presented in the worksheet. Using this app will
enable the students to relate and build a concrete concept of the
graphs and their practical applications. By keeping the app on next two
graphs students will become able to watch a video demonstrating the
way of solving these graphs. Students will also discuss their
understanding with the teacher and with his/her facilitation; students will
solve the remaining questions given on the worksheet.
Home Assignment:
Each student will create two word problems where they
demonstrate that a vehicle travelled in a certain direction and the graph
of the problem represents the distance-time and velocity-time graph of
the vehicle. These problems will be discussed and solved in the next
class.
