Course Syllabus: Chemistry Pasadena High 2014-2015

Supplies/Materials Needed Each Day:

Class Rules and Consequences:
1. Arrive to class ON TIME every day.
2. Follow all PECHS/ PHS behavior expectations without question.
3. Bring all your supplies to class every day.
4. Be courteous and do not interfere with another students right to learn.
5. NO eating, drinking or chewing gum in the classroom or lab.
6. Certain experiments may require specific types of clothing to be worn, if a student does not
adhere to the clothing requirement when adequate forewarning has been given, or other safety
considerations (including not coming prepared for the laboratory) they will be removed from the
lab and no make-up will be given.
7. Sharing or copying answers during a test, informing someone of answers who has not yet taken
the test/accepting answers from someone who has already taken the exam, using notes or other
written information during an exam or quiz that has not been approved by the instructor.
Plagiarism and/or cheating will NOT be tolerated in ANY form in this class if you are caught
doing so, you will be given an automatic zero for the assignment/exam.
8. Come to class with a good attitude!

Consequences for Non-Compliance:
1. Verbal warning (strike one is your only warning to correct your behavior)
2. Parent contact and detention (strike two appears in your classroom record)
3. Office Referral (there is no excuse for your behavior to reach this level. Strike three and you are
out)

Academic Grading Policy:
Grades will be based on labs, quizzes, tests and daily grades. All course work will be given point values.
Letter grades will be based on a percentage of the points total.

My grading scale is points based and has the following weights applied:

25%- Daily Grades (homework, warm-ups, class work etc)
61%- Labs/Quizzes/Tests/Problem Based Learning
14%- Six-Week Tests
My grading scale is as follows:
89.5 100% A (greatly exceeds class standards)
79.5 89.4% B (somewhat exceeds class standards)
69.5 79.4% C (meets class standards)
65.0 69.4% D (below class standards)
below 64.9% F (fails to meet class standards)

Make-up/Late Policy:
Attendance
During the class period, many things happen which cannot be made up. Laboratories, activities, and
discussions that take place during a class are all very important. Students who miss a class period miss
out. Alternative assignments for labs may be provided only with an excused absence.

Absences and Late Assignments
A record of all classroom activities and assignments are posted on the board weekly. If you are absent it is
your responsibility to get the assignment for the day. Late work will be accepted with the following
penalties:

I am available to meet after school and during Eagle Time most days please speak with me during class
to arrange a meeting time.


Participation in learning means:
Participating in productive class/group discussions.
Completing homework on time and seeking help when needed.
Follows classroom rules means:
Wearing proper attire for lab work.
No eating or drinking
No play fighting or unauthorized use of equipment.
Displays on task behavior means:
Class work is done without being asked repeatedly.
Respectful to others means:
Using respectful language when speaking with friends or the instructor
Using equipment only after receiving training and permission
Your Assignment Sheet and Interactive Notebook
Each six weeks, you will receive a new assignment/grade sheet which is to be kept in your Notebook. The purpose in
having this is to help you keep organized and for you to become an active participant in keeping track of your grades,
average, class work, and assignments. It is up to you to keep track of the assignments on a weekly basis. I will collect
the notebook every week to grade. Failure to turn in the notebook will result in grade(s) of zero being given. Please
keep a supply of notebook paper and graph paper with you at all times.
