Reflection Paper: Biyaheng EDSA
Having democracy means having a freedom vested to the people.
The video that I have watched is about the EDSA revolution that happened
for about three decades ago. It showed the different places along the
EDSA comparing the situation during the revolution and todays situation.
The host also interviewed different people whom were present during the
revolution. I cannot put myself into the situation because I do not exist yet
when it happened. What I got is only the idea that it was about having
freedom through ousting Ferdinand Marcos dictatorial leadership. During
his leadership, people were suppressed from a lot of things for which was
the root of the revolution because it was too inhumane. But economically
speaking, Philippines was one of the richest country in Asia in which for me
is so different from that of today.
If I were in the situation, I would not support the revolution for it
brought no good for the Philippines. What I am referring is the economic
side of it, because today Philippines is considered a third world country
wherein back to Marcos regime Philippines was one of the richest. What
was wrong was that Filipinos wanted too much freedom wherein even what
they thought was right was in fact a wrong one, they will insist what they
thought was right for it is their right to fight for it.
Today, maybe a lot of the people who joined the revolution were
regretful for what happened to the things that they fought for had worsen
the situation of the country in terms of economic status which greatly
affects the life of the Filipinos in their daily lives. But things happened for a
reason, what we can do today is help each other hand in hand to build a
better and progressive nation
