Issue #1
One of the major issues in Brazil today is, Drug Trafficking. As more and more people go over
the border of Brazil and Uruguay more drugs are being smuggled in, due to trying to make some
money. Brazil is known to be the largest country that has producers of cocaine and other drugs.
Narcotics are also brought in by an air shipment. Many people today in brazil dont think that
they are getting affected by that but they are, just by letting people with illegal drugs walk
around and maybe even sell it to their kids. Today Brazil has put into place a National anti-drug
secretariat, it was adopted by it government in 2001. Also the people of Brazil have started these
programs called the Grassroots Movement. These movements help to show the importance of
putting an end to drug distribution and trafficking. The movement is trying to involve everybody
including the children. There is also Government initiatives; some are like the Aerial interdiction
operations. That lets the air line be responsible for following the illegal aircraft, intercepting
them and obliging them to land. Which has dropped the percent of illegal flights going over the
boarder but it has caused the drug traffickers to make more and more alternant routes, that the
government cannot really take control of. The other Program or operation is the UNODC, this
helps to heavily give out preventative strategies to stopping the drug problems and it helps give
out analysis of things that are contributing to the violence so there could be an accurate solution.
So Brazil has actually been putting in effort of trying to stop the drug problem and many people
have took to notice it but still some do not even try to abide by the rules that are set in place.

Issue #2
The second major issue in Brazil is the environment. Even though Brazil looks like a great place
on the edge by the beaches, it is being ruined on the inside. That being said because of
deforestation, the long term affects of this issue is that the oxygen can become contaminated with
carbon dioxide and can cause the climate to change in the long run. The short term is that the
forest is being left treeless and that many animals will not have a place to stay. The only reason
for deforestation in Brazil is so that there could be more development and agriculture. Another
environmental issue is Acid rain, it can have a long term affect on the ph level and water because
they can change in a matter of time. The short term affect would be that the animals and plants
would have to either to die off because of how the neutral or alkaline level in the water or try to
migrate to where the water is cleaner and the levels are all lined up. As that being said the other
issue is the endangered species. With the environment changing more and more animals are
becoming endangered, such as the jaguar, sea turtle and the spiny rice rat. They are also being
affected by foreign animals being introduced to areas in Brazil because the balance in the eco-
systems are shifting and causing there not to be too much or too little in the plant life that is in
that certain area. And last but not least there is air pollution, because the population is rising
there are more cities having to expand. The long term of this issue is that the air could never go
back to being clean unless there is an end to the building of cities and the short term is that many
people can start to become sick from the polluted air. The solutions to all these problems has not
arisen yet but the people of Brazil is trying their hardest on finding them because the statistics
show that there are decreases that are within the problems.
