Introduction to topic: Time
- Revise simple oclocks, hour intervals, hour intervals.
- Revise days of the week, Months of the year, reading a calendar,
- Revise various timetables and reading various timetables

Interactive Games
- As a whole class, students play interactive games to assist in understanding of concepts
being taught.

Activity Rotation 1: Dragons Day Time Story
- Give each child a copy of the story.
- Children read through story and organise cards into a timeline of events
- Once complete and checked students then play the story mat game
- Resource:
- Follow the directions Maths Story Mats (page 60 63)

Activity Rotation 2: Clock dominoes
- Students evenly deal out the dominoes
- Continue to play until one person has no cards left

Activity Rotation 3: Time bingo
- Hand out bingo boards and assign one student as the caller.
- Students put counters on the answers they have on their board that match those being
called by the caller.
- First person to fill their card with counters wins and becomes the new caller

Activity Rotation 4: Clock Races
- Give each student a copy of the analogue clocks page (Blakes Time Book pg 14)
- Set the timer and tell students to start and when they have finished they record their
time.
- Give each student a copy of the digital clocks page (Blakes Time Book pg 15)
- Set the timer again and tell students to start and when they have finished they record
their time.
- Students compare times with each other and mark their sheets.

Activity Rotation 5: iPads
- Students play time games on the school set of iPads.

- Revise names of common angles
- Revise degrees in each angles
- Revise how to use a protractor

Interactive Games
- As a whole class, students play interactive games to assist in understanding of concepts
being taught.

Activity Rotation 1: Bendy straws
- Students are each given a bendy straw and discuss with them what an acute, right,
straight and obtuse angles are.
- Get students to make these angles with their straws
- Students then find and record 2 examples of each of these angles.
- When complete students regroup and discuss what they found.

Activity Rotation 2: Measuring pattern blocks
- Revise with students how to use a protractor
- Give each student a selection of pattern blocks.
- Ask them to trace the shape into their books and then measure and record the angles of
each shape.

Activity Rotation 3: Finding angles in the Pentagon (Teaching About Angles: Stage 2 page 42)
- Give each student a copy of the pentagon
- Ask them to get 3 different colours and highlight each of the different angles they find
(acute, right and obtuse)
- Once they have found all of the angles ask them to measure at 5 of the angles they
found and record them on the sheet.

Activity Rotation 4: Angles board game
- Students each get a game board and put the pile of cards in the middle of the table
- Students take it in turn to turn a card over. If it matches one on their board they keep it,
if it doesnt then they put it on the bottom of the pile.
- First to cover their board wins.

- Students play time games on the school set of iPads.

- How to estimate and measure length using different measuring devices
- How to estimate, measure and calculate perimeter

Interactive Games
- As a whole class, students play interactive games to assist in understanding of concepts
being taught.

Activity Rotation 1: Towering metres
- Place a container of connector cubes in the middle of the table
- Students are to each make a line of cubes they think will equal 1m
- Once all students have made their line students then get the metre ruler and check who
was closer
- Students now adjust their lines so that they all equal 1m.
- Students now calculate the difference in their original line to their adjusted line.

Activity Rotation 2: Any 3 items
- Students each use a ruler to locate 3 items in the classroom that equal 25cm in length
- Students record their findings
- Once all students have found 3 items they compare with others in their group.

Activity Rotation 3: Making rectangles
- Students are given cards which have a perimeter measurement on them
- Students then need to reproduce these rectangles in their books with perimeters
matching those on the cards.
- Students then check answers as a whole group

Activity Rotation 4: Cut in half
- Students are given a piece of A4 paper each
- They measure and calculate the perimeter of this rectangle and record in their books
- Students then cut this A4 piece of paper and repeat process.
- Students then continue to cut, measure and record until the rectangle is too small to
measure.

- Students play time games on the school set of iPads.

Activity Rotation 1: 3D Nets
- Students construct the various nets and make a mobile using the 3D shapes

Activity Rotation 2: Who am I 3D shapes
- Students are each given a game board and cards are put in the middle
- They turn over a card and try to match it with their 3D shapes.
- If they can they put it on their shape, if they cant they put the card on the bottom of the
pile

Activity Rotation 3: 3D Shape board game
- Students need to identify 3D shapes on which they land.
- If they can name it they stay on that spot, if they cant they move back 2 spaces

Activity Rotation 4: 3D shapes match
- Students have a game card each and a pile of cards in the middle
- Students turn over a card which is of a real life object.
- They try to match the card with one on their game card.

- Students calculate area to progress forward in the game

Activity Rotation 2: Area memory cards
- Students turn all cards face down
- They take turns to turn over two cards
- If the two cards match they get to keep them, if they dont they turn them back over

Activity Rotation 3: Making rectangles
- Students are given cards which have an area measurement on them
- Students then need to reproduce these rectangles in their books with areas matching
those on the cards.
- Students then check answers as a whole group

Activity Rotation 4: Cut in half

Activity Rotation 1: Equal Volumes Game
- The Equal Volumes Game involves conversion of litres to millilitres and vice versa.
- Students match the cards to find the pairs.

Activity Rotation 2: Match the Volume
- Players need to use a calculator to work out the volume of a shape and find the matching
answer.
- Each correct adds points and each incorrect answer subtracts points from the score.

Activity Rotation 3: Exactly one litre
- Students estimate, measure and record how many 100ml cups are required to fill a 1 litre
container.
- Students repeat process with another small container using the previous measure to assist in
estimating before measuring.

Activity Rotation 4: Copy this
- Student A secretly uses connector blocks to create a rectangular prism
- Student A then tells student B (who has not been looking) how to create the prism
- Once created student A and B calculate the volume of their prisms and compare answers
