fractions, and compare decimal fractions. 6. Use decimal fractions with denominators of 10 or 100.

Assessment

Students will be able to write
fractions as decimals using
decimal notations with
denominators of 10 or 100.
Before the lesson, I will give
students four warm up
questions. During the lesson,
students will be assessed on
their participation in their
groups. I will walk around to
make sure they are doing the
problems correctly. After the
lesson, students will complete a
worksheet with their group.
This section is a review
which will help me know
where the students are
and where I need to spend
most of my focus.
Objective 2 (if applicable) Assessment for Objective 2

Accommodations: I will walk around to make sure my learner with autism is on task and is participating and
helping the group.

Materials: Promethean board, pencil, paper, worksheets

Procedures: Today we are going to write fractions as decimals. Sounds fun? This is a review, you all should
have had this in the 4
th
grade I believe.
1. Can anyone tell me what a terminating decimal is? Decimal with a finite number of digits.
a. Can you give me an example? 0.25 or 0.7890 it does not go on forever it stops
2. What is a repeating decimal? Represented by placing a bar over the repeating digits.
a. Example? 0.3333
3. Now that we have those two down I want us as a class to answer these questions.
4. What is 8/10 in words? Eight tenths
a. Simplified? 4/5
b. To the nearest hundredth? 0.80
c. Nearest thousandth? 0.800
5. Does anyone know how to turn a fraction into a decimal? You divide the numerator by the denominator.
6. So what is 6/10 as a decimal? 0.60
a. 3/12=0.25
b. 5/8=0.63
c. 3/7=.043
7. Now we are going to draw out a chart. One thing to remember is that after the decimal it starts at tenths not
ones. From left to right it goes tenths, hundredths, thousandths, ten-thousandths, and so on and so forth. We
are going to say each one as well, which will help use to chart it better.

8. Ok so now that we have worked with fractions that have a denominator of 10 or 100, now we are going to
work with some that do not. These fractions have decimal equivalents.
9. Does anyone know how to write an equivalent fraction as a power of 10?
a. 1/5 = 2/10=0.2 in order to you multiply the denominator by two in order to get 10 and whatever you
multiply in the denominator you multiply in the numerator.
10. Lets try a few.
a. =75/100=0.75 multiply by 25
b. 12/400=3/100=0.03 here you have to divide by 4 in order to get the power of 100.
c. 54/600=9/100=0.09 divide by 6
11. In your groups complete this chart.

12. As an individual, write each fraction as a decimal. Once you are done, share with your group your findings
and if you noticed a pattern.
a. 7/10=0.7
b. 7/100=0.07
c. 7/1000=0.007
d. 7/10,000=0.0007

13. Now take out your worksheet and begin to work on it as an individual. If a group member needs assistance,
you may help.

Activity Analysis: I am using whole group and groups of four in this lesson. The students work well in
groups and are self-driven. The technology being used is the promethean board.
