Lagree that Scotland's local bus services should be re-regulated to help deliver a better quallity of service for passengers. also support giving the Transport Commissioner greater powers to impose financial penalties on providers that fail to deliver an agreed level of service. Bus de-regulation has failed bus users who have paid ever rising fares in return for an ever diminishing service. It’s also failed those that have lost their local service, and it’s failed the environment by pushing more and more people into car ownership. While I acknowledge that these proposals will involve some additional spending, we can’t expect a good service on the cheap and a well-funded, regulated bus service would bring broader economic benefits to focal communities.
