REALITY FAIR
Note: All pathways include Microsoft Office entry-level skills and certification opportunities. Both entry-level
courses include computer skills, employability skills, and career planning. Introduction to Business and
Technology is for students interested in learning more about business and business operations while Introduction
to Digital Technology is for students interested in computer hardware, networking, technology, programming,
game development, and graphic design.
IBT is a prerequisite for the following pathways:
Entrepreneurship
Students learn general business knowledge, basic
computer skills, and laws related to business and
personal life. Students also learn how to start and
operate a business. Students in this pathway
participate in planning and operating the school sign
and design business.
Business Accounting
Students learn general business knowledge, personal
finance such as banking, saving, and investing, and
entry-level business accounting. Students in this
pathway manage the finances for the school sign and
design business.
Business Communications: What message are you sending when you speak,
write, and listen? As one of the most important skills for employers, students will
explore the value of communication in their personal and professional life. The
digital presence and impact of written and visual communication in a technological
society will be addressed. Students will create, edit, and publish professionalappearing business documents with clear and concise communication. Creative
design, persuasive personal and professional communications will be applied
through research, evaluation, validation, written, and oral communication.
Leadership development and teamwork skills will be stressed as students work
independently and collaboratively. Presentation skills will be developed and
modeled for students master presentation software in this course.

Future Business Leaders of America: A business and leadership organization that participates in
community service, competes in business and technology events, provides leadership and teamwork training,

BUSINESS ACCOUNTING
Introduction to Business & Technology: Introduction to
Business & Technology provides an overview of business and
technology skills required for todays business environment.
Students will complete hands-on projects related to aspects
of business while using and improving on Microsoft Office
skills. Students taking this course will have the opportunity
to move on to the Business & Communication,
Entrepreneurship, or Business Accounting pathways.
Financial Literacy:
How money smart are you? Step into this course
specifically designed for high school students to understand
the importance of the financial world, including planning
and managing money wisely. Areas of study taught through
application in personal finance include sources of income,
budgeting, banking, consumer credit, credit laws and rights,
personal bankruptcy, insurance, spending, taxes, investment
strategies, savings accounts, mutual funds and the stock
market, buying a vehicle, and living independently. Based
on the hands-on skills and knowledge applied in this course,
students will develop financial goals, and create realistic and measurable objectives to be MONEY
SMART!
Principles of Accounting I: Where does all the money go?
As a person would not go to a foreign country and not learn
the language, accounting is the language of business.
Principles of Accounting 1 is a skill-level course that is of
value to all students pursuing a strong background in
business, marketing, and management. Using financial
information, students will learn how to make decisions
about planning, organizing, and allocating resources using
accounting procedures.
Careers Related to the Pathway: Financial Manager, Tax Preparer, Financial Analyst, Accountant,
Auditor, Bookkeeper, Accounting Clerk, Budget Analyst, Purchasing Manager, and Business
Manager.
Major Projects and Activities Completed in the Pathway: Receiving industry certification in
Microsoft Office programs, Planning a personal budget, Investing in the stock market, Completing a
business accounting simulation, Analyzing the financial difference between leasing and purchasing
a vehicle, and Participating in a Coast-to-Coast personal money management simulation.

ENTPRENEURSHIP
Introduction to Business & Technology: This course provides an
overview of business and technology skills required in todays
business environment. Students will complete hands-on projects
related to aspects of business while using and improving on Microsoft
Office skills. Students taking this course will have the opportunity to
move on to the Business & Communication, Entrepreneurship, or
Business Accounting pathways.
Legal Environment of Business: This second course in
the pathway addresses statutes and regulations affecting
businesses, families, and individuals. All students will
benefit with the knowledge of business law as they will
eventually assume roles as citizens, workers, and
consumers. Students will get an overview of business law
while concentrating on the legal aspects of business
ownership and management. Legal issues addressed
include court procedures, contracts, torts, consumer law,
employment law, environmental law, international law,
ethics, and the role of the government in business.
Students will not only understand the concepts, but will also apply their knowledge to situations,
mock trials, and debates and defend their actions, decisions, and choices.
Entrepreneurship: How do you turn an idea into a business? Find
out in the third course of the pathway. Students will work to develop
a business plan that includes structuring the organization, financing
the organization, and managing information, operations, marketing,
and human resources will be a focus in the course. A large part of this
course is a school-based or community-based entrepreneurial
venture that will engage students in the creation and management of
a business and the challenges of being a small business owner.
Students in this class help operate a Sign & Design Business.
Careers Related to the Pathway: Business Owner, General
Manager, Operations Manager, Sales Manager, Marketing Manager,
Business Consultant and Chief Executive Officer.
Major Projects and Activities Completed in the Pathway: Receiving industry certification in
Microsoft Office programs, Operating a school-based business, Negotiating a business deal, Writing
a business plan, and presenting your business plan to a panel of investors.
