courses include computer skills, employability skills, and career planning. Introduction to Business and
Technology is for students interested in learning more about business and business operations while Introduction
to Digital Technology is for students interested in computer hardware, networking, technology, programming,
game development, and graphic design.

Students learn general business knowledge, Microsoft
Office (Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, and
PowerPoint) and Presentation Skills. Students in this
pathway sit for multiple Microsoft Certifications.

Web & Digital Design


Students learn general computer knowledge related to
computer hardware, networking, software,
programming, problem solving and web site design.
Students also learn graphic design, photography
editing, video editing, web site design, and animation
design. Students design graphics, signs, banners, tshirts, and posters for the school sign and design
business in the Digital Design course.

Entrepreneurship
Students learn general business knowledge, basic
computer skills, and laws related to business and
personal life. Students also learn how to start and
operate a business. Students in this pathway
participate in planning and operating the school sign
and design business.
Business Accounting
Students learn general business knowledge, personal
finance such as banking, saving, and investing, and
entry-level business accounting. Students in this
pathway manage the finances for the school sign and
design business.

BUSINESS AND TECHNOLOGY


Introduction to Business and Technology: Introduction to Business &

Technology is the foundational course for Business and Technology,


Entrepreneurship, and Human Resources Management pathways. This course
provides an overview of business and technology skills required for today's
business environment. Knowledge of business principles, the impact of financial
decisions, and technology proficiencies demanded by business combine to
establish the elements of this course. Emphasis is placed on developing proficient
fundamental computer skills required for all career pathways. Students will learn
essentials for working in a business environment, managing a business, and
owning a business. The intention of this course is to prepare students to be
successful both personally and professionally in an information-based society. A
prerequisite for Business and Technology.

Business and Technology: How is technology used to solve

business problems and communicate solutions? Business and


Technology is designed to prepare students with the knowledge and
skills to be an asset to the collaborative, global, and innovative
business world of today and tomorrow. Mastery use of spreadsheets
and the ability to apply leadership skills to make informed business
decisions will be a highlight of this course for students. Publishing
industry appropriate documents to model effective communication
and leadership will be demonstrated through project based learning.
Students will use spreadsheet and database software to manage data
while analyzing, organizing and sharing data through visually
appealing presentation. Various forms of technologies will be used
to expose students to resources, software, and applications of
business practices. A prerequisite for Business Communications.

Business Communications: What message are you sending when you speak,

write, and listen? As one of the most important skills for employers, students will
explore the value of communication in their personal and professional life. The
digital presence and impact of written and visual communication in a technological
society will be addressed. Students will create, edit, and publish professionalappearing business documents with clear and concise communication. Creative
design, persuasive personal and professional communications will be applied
through research, evaluation, validation, written, and oral communication.
Leadership development and teamwork skills will be stressed as students work
independently and collaboratively. Presentation skills will be developed and
modeled for students master presentation software in this course.

BUSINESS ACCOUNTING
Introduction to Business & Technology: Introduction to
Business & Technology provides an overview of business and
technology skills required for todays business environment.
Students will complete hands-on projects related to aspects
of business while using and improving on Microsoft Office
skills. Students taking this course will have the opportunity
to move on to the Business & Communication,
Entrepreneurship, or Business Accounting pathways.
Financial Literacy:
How money smart are you? Step into this course
specifically designed for high school students to understand
the importance of the financial world, including planning
and managing money wisely. Areas of study taught through
application in personal finance include sources of income,
budgeting, banking, consumer credit, credit laws and rights,
personal bankruptcy, insurance, spending, taxes, investment
strategies, savings accounts, mutual funds and the stock
market, buying a vehicle, and living independently. Based
on the hands-on skills and knowledge applied in this course,
students will develop financial goals, and create realistic and measurable objectives to be MONEY
SMART!
Principles of Accounting I: Where does all the money go?
As a person would not go to a foreign country and not learn
the language, accounting is the language of business.
Principles of Accounting 1 is a skill-level course that is of
value to all students pursuing a strong background in
business, marketing, and management. Using financial
information, students will learn how to make decisions
about planning, organizing, and allocating resources using
accounting procedures.

Auditor, Bookkeeper, Accounting Clerk, Budget Analyst, Purchasing Manager, and Business
Manager.
Major Projects and Activities Completed in the Pathway: Receiving industry certification in
Microsoft Office programs, Planning a personal budget, Investing in the stock market, Completing a
business accounting simulation, Analyzing the financial difference between leasing and purchasing
a vehicle, and Participating in a Coast-to-Coast personal money management simulation.

ENTPRENEURSHIP
Introduction to Business & Technology: This course provides an
overview of business and technology skills required in todays
business environment. Students will complete hands-on projects
related to aspects of business while using and improving on Microsoft
Office skills. Students taking this course will have the opportunity to
move on to the Business & Communication, Entrepreneurship, or
Business Accounting pathways.
Legal Environment of Business: This second course in
the pathway addresses statutes and regulations affecting
businesses, families, and individuals. All students will
benefit with the knowledge of business law as they will
eventually assume roles as citizens, workers, and
consumers. Students will get an overview of business law
while concentrating on the legal aspects of business
ownership and management. Legal issues addressed
include court procedures, contracts, torts, consumer law,
employment law, environmental law, international law,
ethics, and the role of the government in business.
Students will not only understand the concepts, but will also apply their knowledge to situations,
mock trials, and debates and defend their actions, decisions, and choices.
Entrepreneurship: How do you turn an idea into a business? Find
out in the third course of the pathway. Students will work to develop
a business plan that includes structuring the organization, financing
the organization, and managing information, operations, marketing,
and human resources will be a focus in the course. A large part of this
course is a school-based or community-based entrepreneurial
venture that will engage students in the creation and management of
a business and the challenges of being a small business owner.
Students in this class help operate a Sign & Design Business.

Manager, Operations Manager, Sales Manager, Marketing Manager,
Business Consultant and Chief Executive Officer.
Major Projects and Activities Completed in the Pathway: Receiving industry certification in
Microsoft Office programs, Operating a school-based business, Negotiating a business deal, Writing
a business plan, and presenting your business plan to a panel of investors.

WEB & DIGITAL DESIGN


Introduction to Digital Technology: In Introduction to
Digital Technology students learn about computer
hardware, computer software (Microsoft Office and Adobe
Software), computer networking, computer programming,
Internet safety and security, and web page design.
Students work hands-on in the computer lab to create and
design real-world projects. Students also learn
employability skills and research careers and colleges.
A prerequisite for Digital Design.
Digital Media: Digital Media is the second course in the
Web and Digital Media Pathway. In this course, students
learn to use Adobe Software such as Photoshop, Flash,
Fireworks, and Illustrator to create graphics, video, and
animation for use on the web. Students shoot and edit
their own video and photographs and use audio editing
software to create voiceover narration and background
music for video and animation projects. Students create
projects for area businesses and the school which involves
using an industry standard poster/banner printer and a
vinyl printer to create t-shirts, banners, signs, and other
promotional materials. Students in this class help operate a Sign & Design Business in partnership
with the Entrepreneurship Students. A prerequisite for Web Design.
Web Design: The third course in the pathway is Web
Design. In this course, students continue to use Adobe
Software. Adobe Dreamweaver is used to layout and design
web pages. The design software learned in the Digital
Media Course is used to add graphics, animation, video, and
sound to web sites. Students also learn to write code and
script and use styles to create web pages. Students in this
course will continue to use their skills and abilities learned
in the pathway to operate the Sign & Design Business.

Animator, Game Developer, Web Page Designer, Webmaster, Internet Security Specialist, Computer

Major Projects and Activities Completed in the Pathway: Assembling Computers, Creating a
Computer Networking Plan for a Business, Designing Projects in Microsoft Office, Making Games
using Computer Programming, Designing Web Sites, Shooting and Editing Videos, Creating a
Photography Portfolio, Writing for the Web, and Designing Flash Animated Movies and Games.
