Writing and Inquiry Academic Context II Reflection
Throughout this semester the area I have learned the most about is research. The
extended inquiry project taught me to look at research in a way I dont believe I ever had before.
I was forced to change my usual researching habits in building my first Prezi. Instead of taking
an investigative approach to solve a problem or find an answer, I was freed to develop my own
questions and see where they took me. I learned an effective way to summarize my research
through double entry journals. This process really helped reform my paraphrasing skills. Since I
had been out of any type of formal education setting for about 4 years, I was introduced to the
newest forms of technology used to aid in showcasing my writings; such as Prezis, blogging,
Weebly, and ePortfolios. I cant really say I learned to free write as I see it comparable to
journaling, but I did find it very effective and helpful throughout this semester. Our trip to the
library and education on how to use Boolean searches in online databases was very helpful!
Overall I learned about many of the on-campus resources we have available to us that I otherwise
would have never known were offered.

I have already used multiple methods learned in this class in some of my other classes. I
have used double entry journaling and clustering the most. I believe I will continue to use these
methods throughout my college career. I have used Prezis several times as well. This tool looks

more professional to me than Power Point so I plan to continue use of it. I believe my use of
these tools will benefit me by showing the depth of my understanding in topics, help reduce my
chances of unintentional plagiarism and help me to present myself in a professional way.
Without this class I would probably come across as inferior to my classmates because I have
been out of the classroom for so long. We use writing in many different aspects of our lives. Not
only do I know I will benefit in the classroom from this course but in the work force as well. If I
could request anything more, I would request to have gone into further detail on plagiarism. I
personally feel there should be a required short (one or two day) course provided on plagiarism
as it seems to be the majority of students top concerns.

If I were grading myself I would give myself an A. I submitted all assignments on time
and participated in class. I feel the time and effort I put into my works was reflected in the
quality I produced. I always have room for growth, and I feel like you could see that I was truly
incorporating what I was learning into my writings. I was open to try new things and accepted
them. I have enjoyed this class and what I have learned in it.
