Proposal to create an Employee Manual for D.R.

Horton East Side Dallas


Background
Over 35 years ago, Donald R. Horton had a vision of livable and affordable new
homes built with unmatched efficiencies and uncompressing quality. Of family
traditions passed on to new generations. Of a business that would grow by making
customers dreams a reality. That philosophy of creating value every step of the way

local homebuilder, to a regional homebuilder, to ultimately the largest homebuilder

Mission Statement / Philosophy

Paid Time-off Policy
D.R. Horton allows you to take any two full weeks out of the year for a paid time-off.
D.R. Horton allows for three days off in December for Christmas and thanksgiving. If
there is a medical emergency we do allow you to leave. We also take the day off on
Labor Day. Each employee will be required by company policy to take care of his or
her own work when off.
Employee Behavior
No employee shall harass or use any offensive language towards anyone. There is a
dress code for all employees that can be found at the front desk. Smoking will not be
allowed within the office. You may choose to smoke outside when necessary. You
may not abuse any office supplies including technology products as this will result
in your consequences. No employee shall access email on any non-office approved
device or directed otherwise. Internet shall not be misused in any way offensive or
abused. Employees shall handle a conflict with their boss or the higher employed.
They shall not tell others about the situation.

Pay and Promotions


All employees will be paid based on the numbers of hours he or she has completed.
He or she needs to show up on the required days to receive credit for pay. All
employees will be paid every two weeks on Friday. We do offer a direct deposit
feature. The overtime policy requires that any employee shall ask before if they
qualify for this time. Work hours will start from 8a.m. to 6p.m. Monday thru Friday.
Your pay will be based on the hierarchy level you are within the company. All
employees are eligible to a stock option within the company. All employees are
eligible for a bonus for the month of December every year.
Benefits
Here at D.R. Horton we offer many benefits included with work. We offer a great
health care system, which includes, Dental, vision, and life insurance. The benefits
with these companys are subject to change. Both part-time and full-time employees
benefit from all our health care system policies. With the result from the birth of a
child this can void them from staying on your health policy. We also offer a great
retirement plan.

Subject: A proposal to modify dress code at work
Im writing this letter to propose a solution to a problem occurring at Dr. Horton on
the East Division involving dress code. This problem has affected most people at this
office location. The employees have been lacking towards a lousy uncalled way of
expressing themselves the way they dress. This also has a major impact on the
customers walking in the door. Its very unprofessional and need to be addressed.
Every day customers walk in and out of the office interacting with employees. These
employees have slacked in these recent years not taking any consideration with
much of a dress code. I think now is the time we took this into further consideration
when it comes to embedding a more strict dress code. Ive heard from many people
in the office that couldnt agree any more. The longer this issue goes unsolved
theres no telling what could happen. We could end up having a major issue on our
hands. We might get a lot of complaints or even get sued. Now isnt the time to sit
back and let it work itself out.
The solution to this problem is simple. We issue a company meeting and following
policy in directing an announcement about it. Each section in the office shall be
aware of the issue we have going on. We will re-write a policy for dress code and
send out emails to all employees. From now on each employee shall follow
guidelines when it comes to a better way to dress in this work environment. Our
goal is to not have any issues arise upon any subcontractor and or customer walking
through our front door that has to meet with any employee with the company.
There are no costs towards this issue. With a little planning and background into
proper use of clothes in the business work environment, this issue will be underway
in no time. Some research and development in modifying the manual will be a
simple but unregretful resentful task for future proof. It just takes some time and a
thoughtful process.
In this conclusion, I do believe that when it comes to a proper dress code we shall
look further into our possibilities. Other employees in this company have been
aware of the issue. I think if you need to take the time out of your day and address
what needs to happen. This will prevent us from anything happening in the future
including sexual harassment. Thank you for taking the time reading my proposal.
