Revision 12/11/2014
MMMMMMMichigan

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. What do all of
these words have in common? Well for one they are all days of the week: of course you
understood that one, right, but come on think harder! Did you get it? During all of these days we
spend our wonderful time here at MMMMMMichigan! You may ask yourself, Hmm why would
he choose this single similarity out of all the other more obvious ones. The answer is very
straightforward: Mytacism. Ummmmm, before I go there I need to ask you one think. Do you
even know what this word means? Tell me, I will be very impressed! Either way if you had no
clue what this word meant, like I originally did, let me tell you that you are about to learn
something really ironic. The simple fact is that Mytacism has something to do with the first letter
of the word itself. Not only does it involve the letter M as a matter of a fact it involves a lot of
those specific letters. In fact, Mytacism is the repeated use and misuse of the constant sound
M. Ideally, we just happen to live in a place that uses the letter M in almost every single square
inch of its vicinity.
The moment I set foot upon this magical wonderland I felt an almost sudden vibe. Can
you feel it? It is the magical essence of a Michigan Wolverine! Alongside this immense pride, as
many of you may already know, comes the gratitude of showing of the school spirit. Being
regarded as the public ivy is a title that is not easy to earn. This is a title that many of the student
regard as true, and thus uphold it with the most care. Not only do we have the smart to show
others what we are made of, but at the same time we also have the spirit that comes tied along
with it. Here at Michigan what other better way to show your school spirt than with the BLOCK

M! Although, that is just it. The letter M seems to be rampant across every single main street.
Every step we take we cannot go an inch without noticing some kind of M near us. This over
excessive use of the letter M directly ties in with the word Mytacism. In fact this word perfectly
describes what we constantly face day after day here at the University of Michigan.
Now you tell me! When was the last time you walked around campus without actually
seeing any sort of Michigan branding? Well to be quite honest, I will answer that question for
you: Never! Being a college town we are often desensitized to many of the logos that are around
us. Without even taking a second look, we have trained our brains to automatically recognize
anything with the Maize block M to be correct! When a matter of fact is that this could not be
farther from the truth. Many times these uses of the letter M can actually be grammatically
incorrect. Overall, as a student basis, we have come to terms with the fact that the block M is
everywhere. Although have we truly come to question the existence of it. For example, why it is
that we see across every building. Many times we often do not ask ourselves these question when
in fact we should. Due to the fact that not everything that shines bright is gold.
Now that we have a better understanding of what this word actually means, we may now
be able to talk a little bit more of it history. When you first saw this word, did you think it was
weird? Did you feel that you had never seen this word in your life? Well if you answered yes to
any of these question then your right! In fact this words history dates back all the way to the
Roman Empire. To the Romans this word was used to describe the inappropriate use of the letter
M (Merriam-Webster). Good thing that the Romans do no live today, otherwise we would not
only have to face the wrath of the Spartans, but also the Romans as well! Latter uses of the term
have also been medically linked to a more understanding interpretation of the word. According
to the, (The Free Dictionary), many time this word refers to constant stuttering in which the

letter M is substituted for other constants. Overall, these definition are constant remembrances
that many times words do not hold the meaning they appear to hold. Only after time will newer
more accurate meanings hold true.
The great University of Michigan, sadly falls victim to this words clever definition. Not
only are we completely guilty of this charged crime, but as the day continues we are often doing
it without being aware. What constitutes an action when you do not even know that you are
doing it in the first place? In addition, what determines whether a word is passed on generation
after generation? Either way it has seemed that this word has passed throughout the vocabularies
of many other before us. One way or another, even if we know that we are doing it, we fall
victim. We know nothing about this word called Mytacism, but somehow we seem to employ it
here at the University of Michigan every single day of our lives. Some may call it a coincidence,
but I think that the issue stems farther than that. In reality I think that the whole reason why we
use this word that contain M on a daily basis is because we are secretly the descendants of the
Roman Empire: waiting for the day to conquer and rightfully build the vast empire we once had!

Revision Reflection
Overall, looking over this piece was quite a difficult task. Form the first day that I originally
started to write this piece I knew that it would be one of the most difficult task to date. Honestly,
even to now I still believe this is true. Analyzing the essay once more, has left me with new ways
to re-imagine the piece, although sadly to no avail. With the structure of the essay, it would take
a complete remolding of the essay form the initial point in order to obtain something that flows
better. Although despite that fact, I did however try my best to tackle on once more the rough
transitions. In order to gain a deeper understanding of the word itself, I tried to include a
definition at the beginning in order to have an informed reader and not let them wonder
throughout the essay searching for an answer. Overall, the goal of this revision was to take a the
piece a provide a clearer picture of my central message.
