Divorce
"Catholic Church on Marriage, Divorce, and Annulments." Catholic Church on Sex, Marriage,
Divorce, & Annulments -Welcome to The Crossroads Initiative. N.p., n.d. Web. 09 Nov.
2014.
I chose this source because it talks about Gods plan for marriage. In Mark 10:2-16 Jesus
says that divorce was never Gods plan. Marriage was/is supposed to last forever. The source
also says that marriage is a covenant between two people and God. It also says that many people
who are or have been divorce feel like the church looks down on them, but it is not the case for
the Church and God loves them.
I will use this source in my paper to address Gods plan for marriage. I can use the Bible
reference to show what God intended his creation of man and woman to be. I can use this to
show the relationship between two people God created is a bond.
"Catholic Answers Magazine." Did Jesus Allow Divorce? N.p., N.d. Web. 09 Nov. 2014.
I chose this source because it talks about how the beginning of creation and again what
God intended. After creating humanity he created the sacrament of Marriage. In Gen 2:24 the
Bible says, Therefore a man leaves his father and his mother and cleaves to his wife, and they
become one flesh. The source also says that Israelites were granted divorces under Mosaic laws
until Jesus came to correct them because he hated divorce.
I could use this source in m my paper when I talk about Gods creation of man and
woman. He created man and woman to be together and to share in his love. He did not create
marriage to be together until you find someone better. I could also use this source when talking
about a specific type of divorceannulments which erases the fact you were married in the
Church.
"Divorce." Gale Student Resources in Context. Detroit: Gale, 2012. Student Resources in
Context. Web. 9 Nov. 2014.
I chose this source because it talks about ancient Rome and men were allowed to divorce
their wives if they were caught drinking wine or leaving without a veil because they were treated
like property. Back then divorce was seen as a private matter until women could own property

mediations were ordered. The source also says that St. Augustine sees marriage as indissoluble.
Also most people after getting divorce remarry just to be divorced again a while later.
I can use this source in my paper when talking about divorce first coming about like the
other source I had mentioned. Also when presenting statistics about marriage ending after
divorce people get remarried. I can also use this in the paper when I discuss the emotional toll a
divorce can take on children since children back then would stay with their fathers.
"Divorce." World of Health. Gale, 2007. Student Resources in Context. Web. 9 Nov. 2014.
I chose this source because it talks about the emotional toll a divorce can have on the
spouses and often sometimes children if any are involved. It also says the divorce rate in the
United States is one of the highest in the world. Even if a divorce parent remarries a new family
can put stress on the child affected. Also children whose parents are divorce often fantasize them
together or show deep anger or hatred. These children have a hard time forming relationships
when they are older.
I could use this source when I talk about the damage a divorce leaves behind. Many
children take this in different ways and are affected in many ways. Also I can use this source
when talking about how children cope with the loss of their parents marriage.
"Divorce/Separation/Annulment." Gale Encyclopedia of Everyday Law. Ed. Jeffrey Wilson. 2nd
ed. Vol. 1. Detroit: Gale, 2006. 761-772. Student Resources in Context. Web. 9 Nov.
2014.
I chose this source because it offers the background of how divorce came about starting
from when the colonies were first established. It even goes as far as the Protestant Reformation
when Henry VIII wanted to divorce Catherine of Aragon. The source gives information about the
different types of divorce such as separation, annulment, and no-fault divorce.
I will most likely use this information in the beginning of my paper when first
introducing my topic. I will use it to give background about how divorce was first requested and
how now there is multiple types of divorce not just one.
