Purpose of this assignment


In this UNIT 6, the student will learn how to collect, analyze and draw meaningful and useful
conclusions based on data collected. Furthermore, students should also learn how to produce and
present a business report in a concise and appropriate format to support business decisions.

Scenario:
After the hosting of the Olympics in Stratford, London Borough of Newham in East London in 2013,
the vicinity of the Olympic Park has become a favourite location for tourists and residents.
Restaurants and all sorts of Eateries are springing up almost daily due to the existence of vast
commercial opportunities and consumers. With this sort of business potential which has been
estimated to be in the tune of 5 billion pounds annually, firms are paying market research companies
for their support and advice in making business decisions; particularly about the consumers and their
buying behaviour and start-up advice information.
You are an employee of London Marketing Research Company Ltd (LMRCL). Your company has
been awarded a contract by Commission Restauranteur (CR), a France based Restaurant and Eateries
operator to prepare a brief of the market, opportunities, competition, consumers and their buying
behaviour, return on investments, risks and advice and other issues on the project management for
opening up the first CR shop around Strafford, Borough of Newham in East London.
You are to conduct market research and produce a report for Commission Restauranteur (CR), to help
them understand the market opportunities and make an informed decision for a likely start-up around
the vicinity of the Olympic Park Strafford, Borough of Newham in East London.

Task 3 (LO3: 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, and M3, D1, D2):


You should be able to produce information in appropriate formats for decision making by Commission
Restauranteur (CR).
a) From the data collected, produce graphical representations in the form of Pie charts, Bar graphs
and Histograms by using the spreadsheet. Use these graphs to draw valid conclusions for
business decisions.
b) Use data from various sources or data you collected to draw scatter graphs on a spreadsheet and
create linear trend lines in the graphs to assist a company in forecasting for their operations.
c) As part of your task, prepare a business presentation using suitable software and techniques to
effectively disseminate information. (You can apply MS Power Point techniques for this
presentation which should contain 10 - 15 slides).

You should be able to use software-generated information to make decisions in an organisation by
doing the following;
a) State and explain the information processing tools and techniques you have used in undertaking
this task. Suggest some other processing tools that Commission Restauranteur (CR) can use for
their operational, tactical and strategic level decision making.
b) Commission Restauranteur (CR) wants to open the first restaurant in Stratford before the end of
the year and this will involve a number of activities. You have been tasked to prepare a project
plan for these activities and determine the Critical Path for the project by using appropriate
techniques such as PERT and Gantt charts and draw conclusions.
c) Use financial tools, such as Net Present Value, Discounted Cash flow or Internal Rates of
