Mariyum Sheikh

Founded

by Qutub ud Din Aibak a slave

The last ruler was Muiz ud Din who ruled
for only 3 years

Khilji sultanate
The

first ruler Jalal ud Din Firoze khilji


Succeeded by Allaudin Khilji
Allaudin was the most enigmatic of all
the Khilji sultans and ruled from 12961316
The latter two rulers of the Khilji
Dynasty were weak and the dynasty
collapsed in 1320

Tughlaq Dynasty
Started

by Ghiasuddin Tughlaq
Conquered and controlled vasts areas of
the Indian subcontinent
Famous rulers were Feroze Tughlaq and
Muhammad Tughlaq

Lodhi dynasty
Founded

by Bahlul lodhi
His son Sikandar lodhi loved scholars
and learning he had several Sanskrit
books translated in Persian
The last king was Ibrahim Lodhi
Defeated in the battle of Panipat in 1526
by Babur

Babur
Ruler

of a small state in central Asia


Invited by the governor of Punjab Daulat
khan Lodhi to come and invade Delhi
Babur met the army of Ibrahim Lodhi on
the field of Panipat and defeated him
and set up the mughal empire
Died in 1530

Humayun
A

scholar and too kind hearted for a


king so was defeated and thrown out by
Sher Shah Suri
Humayun got his throne back
His rule did not last long as he fell form
the stairs of his library and dies only a
year after becoming the king again

Akbar
The

greatest mughal emperor


Crowned after the death of his father
Guided by Bairam Khan
Who was his fathers friend and advisor
Famous for his policies he pacified the Hindus
and married their daughters and abolished the
Jizya Tax
Built Fateh pur Sikri and shifted his capital there
Invented a new religion called the Din I Illahi
which angered muslims

Jehangir
Came

to the Mughal throne after the


death of Akbar
A fair and just ruler
Married the enigmatic and beautiful
Nuur Jehan
She advised him in many of his policies
and decisions

Shahjehan
One of the most romanticized Mughal
emperors
His reign was peaceful and he followed the
policies set up by his father and grandfather
Had the famous Taj Mahal constructed as a
tomb for his wife Mumtaz
He was fond of buildings and gardens and
built them all over his empire
Shalamar Bagh was also built during his reign

Aurangazeb
Ambitiuous

and tactful came to the throne


when he heard of his fathers illness
Defeated and assassinated his brothers
and imprisoned his fatrher
Constantly at war with the Marathas
Wars emptied the treasury towards the
end
The Mughal empire large but weak at the
time of his death

The later Mughals


Of

no great importance and of little

Muhammad Shah Rangeela allowed
people to do as they wished as long as
they allowed him to remain the emperor
Bahadur Shah Zafar last ruler who was
defeated and exiled after the 1857 war
of independence

British
Came to India as traders
Defeated the nawab of Bengal and Oudh
and controlled their territory
Kept growing in strength and taking over
new lands
The entire subcontinent became a colony
and a market for their manufactured
goods and a source of raw materials

1857 war
This

war was the results of all the British injustices that


the Indians had faced
The hated doctrine of lapse which allowed the British to
annex more territories
The cartridge greased with cow and pig fat
Sepoy rebellion in meerut
Consolidated near delhi
Regiments of punjab and bengal remained loyal to British
government
revolt ended in a year
The EIC also dissolved and the Queen became the ruler of
India
