SENIOR EXIT PROJECT PLAN PROPOSAL

I. SENIOR PROJECT: PAPER

A. In a sentence, state what your working thesis is.
Being exposed to reading and literature early in life will enhance child development.
B. In a paragraph, explain how your paper relates to your project.
Reading and being literate are two very important aspects of a childs development.
Through my little libraries, I will give children in the community another resource to get
books besides the school and neighboring libraries. I will also address literacy among
adults, because being more literate as a parent can help the development their child.
Throughout my paper, I will address many topics that are related to the little libraries
including, how reading in the summer will help children so they retain the information
they learned through the school year. Another, is how preparing your child to read
before they can start school will help them learn literacy skills faster and more efficient
when they do start to read.
II. SENIOR PROJECT: PROJECT
A. In a paragraph, state what your project is: (Must use action verbs such as;
Organize and implement, Plan and implement, Initiate and implement, Make, Build,
Create, or Perform)
Throughout the year, I will be doing two different projects that involve reading to
complete all of my hours. I have already started volunteering at the Dodgeville Public
Library. Through my experiences, I have already seen how reading and the library can
affect so many people in a positive way. Next spring, I plan on making and putting up
my own little libraries around town. I hope my libraries affect the Highland community in
the same way the I have seen Dodgeville Library affect the Dodgeville community.
B. In a paragraph, explain who you will come in contact with (mentor, interviewee, etc.),
what you will need, what you will do, where your project will occur, how much it is
estimated to cost, and an estimated timeline for completing your project components
(include dates).
I had to contact the Dodgeville Public Library. When I was on the phone with the
director, I asked if she would be my mentor. I am planing on the director of the library
also to be the person that I interview.I started volunteering at the library on September
15, 2014. I will not need very much for my project. For the my little libraries, I will need
wood and nails to put together the cases that will hold the books, I am hoping that I will
get some group or business to sponsor my little libraries so I will not have pay out of my
pocket. I am also planning on going through some of the donated books at the
Dodgeville Library to see if there are any I want to put in my little libraries. Overall, I do
not expect this project to cost very much. My hopes for the little libraries is they will
start to take shape in the early spring of 2015.

C. In a paragraph, explain your prior knowledge related to your project and why your
proposed Senior Exit Project is a stretch for you.
I know first hand that reading is very powerful thing, and can make you a better student.
I also know that some people, especially around my age, do not think reading is
important. Through this paper and project, I would like to try to persuade those people
that reading is a very important aspect of life. I am probably going to be stretching my
boundaries when I have to talk to different people on the village board about my little
libraries. I will also think I will be out of my comfort zone when I have to build the little
libraries. Even though I will have my grandpas help, I still have never built anything, so
I will probably be a little lost on this subject.
D. Your project must incorporate at least two of the following criteria. Please bold or
highlight all criteria you plan to meet.
1. Academic (Your project displays specific evidence of learning from your mentor.)
2. Community Service (Your project provides viable service to the community.)
3. Career (Your project investigates potential future employment.)
